      Electronic rust protection updates.

I purchased a new 90 series in 2000 and installed a counteract unit straight away.

Generally 2 to 3 beach trips per year and when I sold it last year no rust!

I am very thorough with washing after a beach trip so this may also contribute.

The first thing I installed when I upgraded to a 120 was to install a Couplertec unit.

A friend of mine has a counteract unit on his hilux and swears by it. Are they still available in Oz? Which couplertec unit do you have?

          Re: Electronic rust protection updates.

ERPS system worked fine for me on the old 90 series (8 years from new, multiple beach trips, no rust at all) and I've now installed another one in the replacement vehicle for it - a 120 series.

Hopefully another 8 years or more with no rust in this vehicle as well...

            Electronic rust protection updates.

Counteracts have been re-badged and marketed as Couplertec.

Mine is the HD model with 2 couplers. Will dig up the receipt for the version installed.

This is the one I installed

              http://www.couplertec.com.au/4wd/suv...-product-flyer

This one has 2 captive couplers. I installed one coupler in the engine bay and the other behind the diagonally opposite tail light.

              Cheers

                Re: Electronic rust protection updates.

just wondering when installing these do you have to remove the paint from under the pad or do they work through it.

                  Re: Electronic rust protection updates.

I have had one of these CouplerTec units fitted to my 90 series Prado for a few years now and it has helped keep my paintwork looking fantastic. My paint colour is black and looks new - not bad for a 10 year old car. I get positive remarks regularly about the paint condition and also the chromework too [including the dealer i am buying my "new" Prado from] I will definately relocate this to my next vehicle - actually removed it ready now!

QUALITY PAINTWORK MUST BE UNDERNEATH THE COUPLERS - read the instruction manual at couplertec.com.au as it clearly states what you need to do

                    Re: Electronic rust protection updates.

No need to remove the paint under the couplers.

I did not remove the unit when I sold the car as I believed after 10 years it served me well. Ofter spending $60K on a new car I considered $500 a small price to pay for piece of mind and considered any improvement technically over the older model would be a benefit.
