  • should there be a 4x4 engaged dash warning light?

    Hey peoples,

just a quick one, was down the beach for the first time with the 04 Gx prado and put into 4x4 ranges and did not notice a dash light appear, do they have one? if they do, has anyone attempted to replace led/globe?

The only light that I know of is the centre diff lock light. This is for my Grande.
There are no lights when you go into low range.

Yes it does, this is what it should look like when 4WD is engaged. Sorry can't help with bulb replacement.

            Hey Lost,

Before you start ripping the dash apart and trying to replace the globe che3ck the connections on the side of the transfer case where the wiring is connected. I had read on here some time ago about this problem and this seemed to be the cause.

When my light wasn't coming on this was my problem.

I thought I read somewhere on PP that the bulb/LED behind the instrument cluster is a square shape. Not sure if these are easily replaceable or not compared to conventional LEDs. I could be wrong.

                Hi Guys,

My 03GXL spent all of last week at Toyota chasing this light..
It's an LED in the dash not a globe and from what i saw unless your more than just handy with a soldering iron it could end in tears trying to replace it.
I deal with LED's all day every day in copier display panels and i've never replaced one that is switched on and off many times a day so i doubt one that gets little use would need to be replaced....
They still haven't found the reason why it doesn't come on yet it's going back in again next week...

Re: should there be a 4x4 engaged dash warning light?

Just to clarify - Prado is a permanent 4WD - all four wheels are driven all the time.
What the light above signifies is that the centre diff lock ( CDL) is engaged. ( as amts pointed out )

It's no big deal, just a personal bug of mine, but technically it is not "engaging 4WD".
                  Cheers, Wayne

My centre diff lock light has stopped working twice. On both occassions the switch in the cente diff had failed.
