samo we have a pair of AWA DVD players we bought from Big W for $200.00 for a couple of years now and they have been faultless. best $200.oo we ever spent. They attach to the headrest with straps and are not the built in headrest type, are these the ones you got???. If we want peace and quite we have to plug in the headphones, not wireless. There is nothing more that will drive you crazy but Bindi Irwin or Thomas at the back of your head.

Re: headrest dvd players, thoughts and experiences

      Samo,

I fitted a set I got from Fleabay. Got em bout 2 weeks ago, paid 340 clams delivered to my door. Same thing, wireless headphones and little (Playstation like) game remotes.

      Bad:

I had a problem with one unit not reading discs properly (if at all) and so I have contacted the supplier (Melb based) and they have been good with their communication and asked for it to be returned and they will psot a replacement. I was lucky in that I actually ordered 2 sets, one for me and one set for Duff (PP'er). He's only got one nipper so I was able to pinch his other until I get a replacement sent. The only other drama was a bit of foam fell off one of the headphones - nothing a bit of superglue wont sort.

      Good:

They are excellent! My 2 kids (5 and 6) can navigate the games no problems. The games are in no way Playstation 3 worthy but are definately good enough to keep em entertained. They are made by Native 32 I think. Mine play all my Bali DVD's no problems. Added bonus is they come with cabling to allow AV in and out to both screens - meaning either screen can be set up as a master or slave ( kids can watch the same or different DVD's).

My suggestion to you is also wire em up to constant power. I had a similar set up to MDS69 previously that plugged into an acc fed power outlet. When the engine was stopped no problem, when cranked again the acc power would drop off, killing the DVD power and resetting the movie to the start - KIDS NOT HAPPY MAN    .

You will have trouble deciphering the instructions - good old Chinese to English translation but generally pretty easy to fit.

End of the day, like anything, you get what you pay for. They wont be as good as the Sony etc you buy locally but I certainly consider them good value.

PS to MDS69 I feel your pain man... That Thomas tune is etched into my brain! Boys are bit older now so its Ben10 these days! Ha Ha Ha!

          hi Samo

Have had a couple of portable DVD players 1 from BigW that was replaced twice and then I got a refund(battery kept dying). Then I purchased a teac dual screen system about 5 years ago and it has been really good. Only issue I had was it didn't have a battery so everty time I turned off the car it stopped. Finally hooked it up to the aux battery a month ago so Kids will be happy (for now). When It dies I thhink I will purchase the headrest ones from fleabay.

Re: headrest dvd players, thoughts and experiences

I gave up on DVD players in the car as the discs kept getting scratched. I'm now using a Dvico R-2230 media player with 500GB HDD inside. It has composite (yellow RCA) and HDMI out, so when we travel and stay at holiday homes, the 'DVD collection' can be watched on CRT and Plasma TVs. As I don't have an aux battery, I have to keep the engine running at toilet stops so that the unit does not get reset.

well the dvd players arrived the other day and i opened them up and gave them both a test run, picture is good, they place everything known to man, best of all they have wireless headphones, so no more bloody kids tunes while im driving, i ordered black for something different instead of grey so it looks different but i dont mind it, i will wire them up over the weekend if i get a chance and throw some fotos up. cheers samo

Re: headrest dvd players, thoughts and experiences

OK so I have joined the club here and purchased some headrest DVD players.
My question to those that have them is, how did you run the wires down the inside of the seats?
Did you remove the seat covers and if so how did you do it?
Did you hard wire them up to power?

I was thinking of getting a new switch and having them switched at the blank points just infront of the gear shifter.

Any help / experiences when installing them would be great.

                    Cheers all

Reach under the seat from the back and there is some elastic that secures the lower flap. That gives you plenty of room to reach the wires once you have poked them in.

I also fitted a switch in the console to select acc or constant power. The DVD players Chriso and myself have also have a resume feature so when set they always power back up to the same spot on the film so the constant power is more so you can take the keys out and leave them running.

Re: headrest dvd players, thoughts and experiences

today myself and damo wired up my rear dvd players, we found a constant power wire under the dash, ( power to my uhf) and tapped into that, we also put a switch inline so that they could be turned off and not on stand-bye all the time, very easy to install, pull your old head rest out, run the wire down the back of the seat, you just need to reach your hand underneath and pull them through, then to run the wires up to the front, i removed the plastic trims and run the cable up in the centre console and up under the dash were i found the power. i dont have a front dvd player so i just wired up the power wire and it was all done, test ran everything and the wireless head phones work a treat as well. here are a few pics. cheers samo

Has anyone grafted the DVD player into the OME head rests so it looks more factory fitted. The aftermarket head rests dont have as much support.
