  • New suspension $1500 budget

Hey Peeps im after some new suspension i have read the previous topics but im still unsure which setup will suit my needs so a little advice

My Situation: $1500 budget, 2" lift, i am willing to do it myself no probs, at the moment the Prado has a Dual batt system up front, will be running a fridge in the rear 24/7, my partner uses it as a daily for work and errands i have 1 sprog so i cant go to harsh of a ride, i do alot of beach work in the summer, and intend on doing some mud/rock work soonish, i do a bit of camping every now and then so that means fully loaded, both tanks full 4 people and a child normally

So before you flame me for another "suspension thread" im sure you can appreciate that everyone's situation is different so im after advice on what will work best for me

I am interested in the billies but saw somewhere they only have a 20,000k warranty/1yr, am i wrong?
Coil setup?, i do plan on going for a bar and winch at some stage so will MD handle this , and is it better to run MD coils and bags or will MD coils do on their own?

oh and im not interested in cheap and nasty stuff as safety is paramount with the missus and the wee one using it daily

    Cheers

    Hey mate!

Thats something I'm looking at but don't have that budget.

One combo a lot of people have tried and tested is a Lovells/Bilsteins combo.
A good person to talk to is the guys at Suspension Stuff.
    https://www.suspensionstuff.com.au/shop ... ac21ec4c0c

Due to price I'll be getting the Mates Rate lift kit in a few weeks. Has Dobinson Coils + Suspension Stuff shockies. Has a warranty and hoping it should be quite a good setup.
For the rear I don't think you'll need airbags unless you really start loading it up! Medium Duty coils should be fine I imagine. I'm sure others have some advice!

$1500 should set you up with quite a nice suspension setup!

For the money you are talking about that is a very good set up, however go for EFS, 3 yr warranty, cheaper and the shocks are matched to the springs so you get a very good ride, thats what I have done and it is very nice to drive

What did the EFS package set you back Crooza, as they definitely made my short list

Shocks are about $140ea, (front shocks could be a little bit more now) and springs are about $200 a pr, not that I paid that as I had contacts that got them much cheaper, as they did a photo shoot for the install and track test.

Before at the top after on the bottom all up gained 50mm in the front and 70 mm in the rear, so it should sit nicely when loaded up

Thanks to Zordo for the installation and getting everything there and ready not to mention the extra effort to do it after hours top notch

aza, can you measure from the bottom of the rims to the guard & post those measurements?

Also can you advise what rating springs you used....light medium heavy duty front rear?

                  Cheers

Thanks Mate I appreciate that, now I can go out & imagine how that would look on my baby...

BTW default is 740mm all round according to the Prado brochure although My last measurements where 740 front 750 rear on the standard suspension. The 750 rear needs to be heavily loaded to bring it down to 740 so even when full it was still riding pretty well even.

                        Hey guys,

Tested that suspension out yet aza? Did you end up fititing it yourself? can you recall how much it set you back?

I've got 715mm all round in my 98 RV6 on standard suspension with 109,000kms and a fair bit of weight in it, but now have a leaking shock... so I guess i've got a 1" droop.. a 2" lift might give me +3"!

                        Thanks in advance, Luke

Yeah i had it up the northern access track up Bribie was good not belling out or dragging the diffs through the sand holes (thnx to a little bit more flex), decided to get a professional to do it, which took around 2hrs in total its an easy job unless you have trouble with the rear shock bolts which can turn it into a major, i was lucky and the bolts all came off with ease as my truck has never really seen any mud work or hard 4wding, from memory my standard heights were 735mm in the rear loaded with whats in it now and 745mm in the front with dual batteries, and that was at 246k on the clock, maybe the rv6 is lower than the vx i dont know, all up fitted cost me $1170

                          Hope that helps

                            Hey cheers for the info,

Just been to Springs and Blacksmithing in Cairns (EFS dealer) guy there was very friendly and helpful and said to do all four corners springs and shocks would take 4 hours and cost $240 which I was very happy with, guess they budget enough time for it being tricky. He wrote out some retail prices from a EFS printed catalogue which were $700ish front $600ish rear... which I was thinking was reasonable as I didn't know any better!!!.... hmm might try contact EFS on their pricing as I thought this guy was just reading the RRP suggested by EFS. Or did you get a mates rates/trade discount setup? I guess there is freight involved to Cairns but confused now after seeing the printed document.

Drove up the inland bribie track a month or so ago.. needed maxtrax twice due to panning out!

Height wise I understand that your car is higher at the diff due to higher profile tyre on wider rim but measuring from bottom of rim to guard is the same? when ordering aftermarket suspension it's all the same so I imagine our original suspension is same too. Yea 246k from suspension is pretty good. I'm sure mine would have got there if it hadn't started seeing alot more unsealed roads.

Just found EFS suspension online for around $1200.. so I guess the difference is freight... don't know how you got your deal aza!
