Genuine Toyota Air Filter

I purchased a new genuine Prado air filter element yesterday, I have always purchased consumables from the same Toyota dealer. When I opened it it had an extra pad/filter glued to the base. I thought it might be some sort of packaging protector and I would simply pull it off. I realised that it is glued pretty well and does not appear to be meant to be taken off. :? It was too late to call the dealer, Saturday close at 12.00.

can anyone shed some light on this :?:
on the positive, I installed it "as is" and doesn't seem to affect performance, I then thought, when the pad gets clogged/dirty, I will rip it off and reuse the filter!!!

That piece is to stop all the bugs and crap being caught up between the pleets, making it easier to clean.

The air filter on the family BA Falcon is similar to the Prado (without that pad) and it gets full of bugs etc and you can't easily clean them out.

Definitely leave that pad on the filter.

That pad makes the filter impossible to tap clean if it fills with fine dust or sand.

well how's this. Rang Toyota spoke to parts. There response: "no idea :idea: , must be for extra filtering, I'll put you through to service". Service, "haven't noticed :shock: , sounds like an improvement :idea: ".

You have fitted it correctly. The new V8 filters are the same design.

The Terrain Tamer Prado filter also has this extra layer. It works well to add extra filtering. As for tapping it out, if the dust won't tap out it is time for a new filter. Unless of course you like rebuilding engines
