  • Turbo Problems

Well the Prado goes in on Monday to have the turbo removed and sent to Darwin MTQ to be repaired. I have to get it done under the extended warranty with Swann. Of course Swann are already saying that they will make a decision on whether they will allow it as a warranty repair after they see the report from MTQ in Darwin.

I just hope it gets repaired and put back on the car befor we head off for the GTG on the 25th of Sep. I know we are going to be without the car for a couple of weeks at best.

Quite a bad run you've had with your Prado and Toyota...... If it was a horse it'd be at the pet food factory by now

This sounds like BS. I reckon you have a claim... perhaps seek some advice from Consumer Affairs.

Interesting. Masso also suffered a Trubo problem that left him stranded in the desert . I wonder if there's anything in common here.

My fingers are crossed for a good outcome for you Mav.

          Cheers,

              Re: Turbo Problems

Obviously I don`t know all the details, but I fail to understand how they can say that oil leaks are not covered under warranty.
"All turbo`s leak Oil like this", no they don`t. Try getting a rwc certificate in Vic with an oil leak.
stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats. Sidewinder`s Dual Battery isolator and rear power outlet kit. Pirana Battery tray, Hayman Reese towbar with Toyota wiring kit and Brains`s guard.

gee MAV i wonder what the outcome would have been if you had toyota extended warranty.
then they would be in a pickle.
we have toyota extended warranty, and have had no issue with items raised.
does your policy have a maximum claim limit?
some of those types of companies have low limits.
i should know, i used to have to deal with then and irate customers once they realised.
good luck. let us know how you go

Is this leaking visible externally? If so can you take a couple of pics and post them in this thread?

                      Re: Turbo Problems

Okay, the Prado is in at Toyota and the turbo is in Darwin being repiared. Toyota don't replace turbo's they send them out for repair. Yes the oil was visible from underneath it. I cannot take photos now as the turbo has now gone to Darwin. My extended warranty will cover this so that is a good thing. I have a year left on the lease but not sure whether to pay it out and tarde the Prado in now, it would depend on what the trade-in price would be.

I still enjoy the car though and the long range tank is a definite plus to keep the car for now. I love being able to fill up here, drive to Adelaide and be able to drive around Adelaide for a day or two before needing to fill up again.

                          Re: Turbo Problems

It seems as though most manufacturers these days need to get their service department back into line and identify what and when leaks and stuff should be repaired.A friend of mine had a similar issue with a different vehicle.he noted a few oil leaks from transfer case, transmisssion and other items and requested for them to be rectified.Unfortunately they were'nt as well as other problems that nearly saw vehicle seize up.Currently this has been rectified by another service location and legal issues pending...

                            Re: Turbo Problems

Still waiting for a decision from the extended warranty company as to whether they are going to cover the cost of the new turbo. The MTQ report said that the old turbo was kaput and it needed a new turbo. There is one sitting in Darwin and Toyota are just waiting for the decision so they can get it sent down here to be installed.

                              Hi Mav,
Did the report indicate what was "Kaput" eg. failed bearings, failed seals, damaged rotating assembly, fouled guide vanes etc. I would be interested to find out.
I hope it turns out OK for you. Hmmmm 200 series Aye! I have been doing a couple of mods to my mates new 200 V8TD GXL and was shocked how little you get when compared with the GXL Prado and there are some issues with the 1VD-FTV but still beautifull to drive.
