142kw..... 15kw increase, nothing radical. Keeps them in touch with the rest of the industry I guess. Would be nice to have seen something more substantial to make a bit of a statement. I thought Toyota liked to be seen as the industry leader?

Agree -- a bit conservative as an upgrade ops: ; But I guess target was emissions standard compliance and keep fuel consumption as low as possible. Nevertheless a welcome update

Re: 2011MY Toyota Land Cruiser Receives Updated 3.0L Diesel

        Hi Guys
Regarding Mick's comment of Toyota wanting to be the Industry Leader, in this case Industry Leader might not be "first" but "better". There are a lot of forums detailing issues with diesel particulate filters (DPFs) and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valves that Euro 5 compliant engines have . Prior to buying my Prado, I was keen on the X-Trail because it looked a little more city friendly for my Monday to Friday existance. However, the X-Trail forum website started reporting issues with the DPF and EGR. For example, The PP thread concerning which Diesel fuel to use is very short compared to the same topic thread on the other website. Some owners of other makes with Euro 5 have to use the "Ultimate" type diesel to stop the DPF clogging up as quickly. Many city based owners of Euro 5 diesels need to give their cars a long run at over 80kmh every week to allow the DPF to automatically run a process that pumps extra fuel into the exhaust to burn off the particulates trapped in the DPF. There is also a long thread in another make's forum about the Exhaust Gasses -the diesel oil in the exhaust gas is not sufficiently separated and ends up gumming up vital sensors, the intercooler, and air filter.

By not being first, I hope that the Toyota engineers have taken note of other "clean diesel" engines and have done things better.

        Cheers

Re: 2011MY Toyota Land Cruiser Receives Updated 3.0L Diesel

I always thought Toyota is very conservative with their engine. Toyota are very good at marketing their range without adding much, stick a sportivo sticker on it, change the cosmetics and charge more $$.

An industry leader would have put something like 2.7ltr V6 turbo diesel or twin turbo diesel in the Prado 120.
Only reason I didn`t buy a 90 series was that it was so gutless compared to the 3.0ltr Jackaroo at the time and they didn`t change that until midway through the 120 series. I would be ten years older now had I bought a 90 series or 120 series with the old 90kw 3.0ltr donk.
I think that they are making plenty of money selling the Prado as is, and they are clearly selling a ton of them, so why bother getting too innovative and spending money on developing a new motor?

The Landcruiser needed a new engine, the 6 was not able to meet the new regulations and is long and heavy, but gee didn`t they got a lot of mileage out of that old donk.
But then keeping it simple and reliable isn`t a bad thing in a 4wd.
stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats. Sidewinder`s Dual Battery isolator and rear power outlet kit. Pirana Battery tray, Hayman Reese towbar with Toyota wiring kit and Brains`s guard.

I think in the light of this news the awaited and much anticipated V6 is some time off. Maybe with Toyota's recent woes overseas and the money poured into the D4D they have decided to squeeze more life out of the engine. A pity. There are some really good (V6) diesels out there now. I will look to replace the 120 in about 3 years time and if the D4D is still the diesel in the 150 may need to look elsewhere; not that the engine is bad just that my confidence with this one has been rocked by those who have had (significant) problems with theirs.

Does the current 150 series (in Australia) have a Diesel Particulate Filter?

In Europe yes and I can't see what it would be different in Australia on the same engine. But I am not sure for Australia

I wonder if Toyota has something more up its sleeve - maybe a move to a 6 cylinder TD in the 180 series? The 3.0L 4 cylinder may have a few more KW to be tweaked from it, but with the Pajero upping the ante with its 3.2L high output TD and Nissan's Patrol possibly featuring a new Renault 6 cylinder TD in 2011, there could be some interesting options on the drawing board in Mr Toyodas office.

The Nissan with the V6 Renault engine is a monster truck even compared with the 200 series so not really in the same class as the current Patrol which I believe will carry on side by side with the new beast.

I just traded in a Subaru Outback Diesel on a 150 Prado because of issues with the DPF filter.
I wanted to get a Prado before they to the Euro v emissions because I had nothing but trouble with the Subaru.
