Hi, new to the forum.
However, I've found some helpful stuff prior to joining (more on that later*).
I have a '95 Prado KZJ120, 3L Turbo, Auto, just under 115,000km.
This past weekend, the 90L sub-tank light stopped working (at least I hope that's what's wrong).
I thought my wife may have topped up the tank, but alas, she hadn't.
The gauge seems to working, though I'm suspect of its accuracy.
I'm hoping it's just a globe or sensor or something relatively minor.
I've read some stories here about sub-tank fuel pumps failing and vehicles stopping dead in there tracks. Very expensive and inconvenient ordeals.
Has anyone had this or a similar experience and recommend what steps I should take next?
Is there any way of assuring myself that the pump is functioning properly?
I have to travel this weekend (only 200k +/- round trip) but don't need any headaches like I've read about.
I won't be able to get it a mechanic or auto sparky 'til next week.
BTW I'm reasonably clever chap, but my level of motor mechanics went out with my '68 Valiant (like working on a lawn mower by comparison) any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
Mick
* I recently experienced the gear lever spring dilemma. I was able to repair it and I am happy to share the details of how with anyone that needs it. It seems to be holding just fine and saved me $150 at the wreckers or $700 at Toyota!
I will put together a detailed description of the job and post in that old thread when I get a chance. Right now I'm just trying not to freak out about the current situation!
