  • Firestone vs Polyair Bags?

Hi guys, pretty close to ordering a set of air bags for the Prado. Does anyone have any comments experience with the Firestone brand (Airbag Man) vs the Polyair bags?

My local 4wd shop has quoted $445 fitted for Polyairs and $520 fitted for Firestone. He reckons the quality of the hose and fittings is much better on the Firestones. The actual bags are very similar apparently.

    Any info would be great.

    Cheers, Sam.

I have only had the polyairs.

Hose and fitting much better quality??? It is black hdpe on the Polyairs, and the fittings seem to do the job well.
I do like the colour of the Firestones over the red Polyairs.

Go for the cheaper option IMO. Even cheaper way to go is buy the polyair bag kit for about $210.00 and then fit them yourself. (takes about an hour)
2008 Diesel Prado with extra stuff added. I drive it on the road and other places too.

I bought these from Truck springs http://www.truckspring.com/suspension-p ... -4107.aspx cost just over $100 including post to my door. I have used both bags , Poly air and firestone, the fire stone bags are a bit thicker material and the fire stone uses a lot better quality pipes

Good link there thanks. How'd you get Prado bags from there though. Couldn't even see Toyota listed on there???

Use the "Search by vehicle" top left hand side, search for Toyota, FJ cruiser 2007 onwards.

You measure the inside of the coils you are fitting the bags to,, The 4107 kit fits the lifted 120 Prado and uses bag 6021 which is 4.75" Diameter and 9" long .. The standard height Prado uses kit 4135 with the 6024 bags which are 4.75" Diameter and 7.5" long. The pipes are all the same in the kits .You need to cut the rubber cones in the springs shorter to fit the bags . You can fit them without taking the springs out but I took them out to drill the hole at the top of the spring seat bigger (where the pipe goes through ) .http://www.truckspring.com/installation ... 444324.pdf

how would you fit them with-out taking the springs out? squash the bag through the spring gap?

                price looks good.

i've used both Boss and Polyairs now, not firestone sorry, but the polyairs are the easiest so far, best quality.

i agree with the others.. fit them yourself, it's not a hard job and doesn't take long, and you get that satisfied feeling at the end.

That is what I paid last time at Repco.
I saw a brochure a couple of weeks back from Repco, and I think they were still about that price.
I will be using the U.S link supplied above for my next set of bags. $100.00 for a set of Firestone's delivered is excellent value IMO.

I got quoted a touch over $300 from repco 4 weeks ago. I got them from Heasmans for $265.00 and fitted them myself.

Easy to fit? Got any pics? What do you have to undo/remove to get the springs out?

                      Cheers, Sam.

                        Re: Firestone vs Polyair Bags?

I found them easy to fit. Install stands under the chassis, support the diff with a trolley jack, undo the bottom shock bolts, panhard rod mount on the diff and the sway bar link pins lower the jack and away you go (careful with putting the weight of the diff on your rubber brake hoses). Cut off the bump stops as per instructions, drill out the top spring seat and remains of the bump stop, install bag into spring and reinstall. There is actually a bit more to it than that but basically that is it. There is an excellent thread in the 120 suspension section with some figures for retensioning the bolts you have undone. Took me around 3 hours by myself.

I must be dumb because i can't figure out how to order the 4107 kit for my lifted Prado. I've set up my account and selected a base 2008 FJ Cruiser as my car but it only lets me buy a 4135 kit. I can get the 4107 kit up on the screen but there is no buy option? And it looks to be more like $150 delivered to my door? Please help.

                              Hi Folks

I've had Polyairs on other cars with no problems even on hard trips, this time I'm going with the Firestones as ARB recomended them as they are a slightly thicker material. They are fitting mine at the same time as they do the OME lift kit for $400.00 supplied and fitted. All the prices I got for the Polyairs were $290.00 or thereabouts plus fitting, I'll post some pictures next week after the fitting.

                              Regards, Richo.
