  • electric brakes setup.

Yaaah I have just brought my girl a 03 Prado grande with 160kms for 27k ..... Anyway my question is do the prados have any inbuilt set up for electric bakes for a trailer? I know there is no controler but I noticed that the lights are conected in the L/H well where the jack is. There is also another lume heading FWD???? dose anybody know where this sucker runs too?

Don't believe there is, but stand to be corrected. The loom you refer to is for the trailer wiring plug.

      Hi Oily,

Welcome to Pradopoint. I assume by your nick, that you've bought yourself a Diesel?

Regarding the loom..... If there is one, I wasted far too much time running mine back with new cables...

If you get the Toyota tow bar they plug an extra loom into the rear left hand side
tail light. This loom has slave relays to drive the trailer lights extc. From memory the
I seem to recall that the new loom has a wire in it connected to the trailer brake pin but
the wire ends where the relays are tapped to the form. You have to run the wire from there
        yourself.

          Re: electric brakes setup.

Thanks leigh, I'm guessing you mean I have to pull the relay box up and I might see a terminated loom that I will have to pin out to find the brake signal at the trailer conect pin?? The after market controler that I have said to conect the power\earth directly to the battery *(fused) and brake application to the pedal (not just the light), and then route a wire from controler to the the trailer plug. With my particular car, there is already an AUX and a brake power there, but I carn't seem to see where they run. I will keep looking if I ever get my Girl out of it....I've only driven it once in the last month.

The car is petrol, V6, I have had to spray the bonet, the front seat bases are slightly worn and its black....so I can see every little scratch, But I fell after looking for about a month, its not to bad, the girl I brought it off wasn't very clear on how to put it into 4wd so it hadn't had much. I must of just really wanted one.

            Re: electric brakes setup.

The factory setup in mine just has the relays taped to the wiring form with adhesive foam.

If the wiring is already there then most likely they had a controller fitted. take a look at the
lower panels of the dash on the drivers side for screw holes or another possibilty would be the ash tray
mount. If they have run it as per standard you would expect to see a heavy blue wire and or a red wire
maybe taped up under the dash or behind the ash tray that they used. Also a thermal circuit breaker
            near the battery.

How olds the car, sorry to say I once read somewhere to avoid a car with unreasonable wear to the drivers seat as it
has most likely been used as a courier or trades vehicle hope yours wasn't

            Cheers
