  • DIY lower control arm bushes - need to remove steering rack?

    Hi guys,

I need to replace all the lower control arm bushes on my 95 series Prado as they are worn.

The mechanic who came to do it said the steering rack must be lowered or removed in order to remove the bolts at the inner end of the control arms.

Anyone who replaced their lower control arm bushes and had to remove the steering rack? I had a look at the location of the bolt and was thinking that one could get by just removing the entire tie rod assembly from the steering rack - i.e. inner tie rod, rubber boot, outer tie rod (for which I have replacements anyway).

    Any opinions are welcome.

    Thank you

No worries all I found the answer myself after researching a Gregory's manual...yes the steering rack has to be lowered in order to access the 2 bolts on each side of the lower inner control arm.

    Cheers
