  • HID BIXENON KIT- NEED ADVICE

    Hey Guys

I dont know a great deal about the electrical side of cars these days so i am looking for advice from all my fellow PP Members, I wanna swap out the healights in my 2008 Prado GXL with BiXenon HID Headlights...

I have looked at a number of sites and videos and have decided to get the 6000K lights but am now stuck between the 35W and the 50W lights, the 50W look alot brighter and light up the road really well, however i am worried is this going to be too much power drain or too hot for the factory lenses..

Anyone who would give advice, advantages or disadvantages on this choice and the difference between 35W and 50W for me would be greatly appreciated..

    Thanks

I don't think it's worth the risk putting HIDs on your headlights as you can be easily picked up and get defected.

Dont quote me on this but I'm led to beleive there is an ADR that requires self levelling suspension and/or auto levelling headlights on vehicles equipped with HID headlights.

That is correct. There was also a rumor about washers setup for the headlights but this is oncorrect. I do believe that this ADR requirement is limited to head lights only. Driving lights do not require this and can be upgraded.

Hope this post makes it clearer

HID in headlights are not permitted unless you also have headlight washers and auto-levellers.

You can however, upgrade your spotlights to HID.

Re: HID BIXENON KIT- NEED ADVICE

This has been covered a lot before.

              HID = illegal by ADR.

6000k = too white, and actually hides stones /rocks on light coloured dirt roads. 4300k is better.

Unless you have auto levelling and washers fitted you can be defected. They are very bright in the Prado standard headlights and get a bit of beam scatter.
I would be going to Fatboy bulbs or similar instead.

Re: HID BIXENON KIT- NEED ADVICE

I agree with the post above. 6000k will immediately give you away to the highway patrol guys.
I have installed 4300k 35w HID and it is not obvious at all. My freind is a highway cop, and he helped me install my recent lift and HID lights in a day with beers. In his opinion, I will be fine, as long as adjustment is kept in order. We adjusted lights perfectly after the lift, and all has been good over the past 6 weeks or so. I have airbags in the rear as well, so when it is loaded up, my lights don't point to the sky......or in oncoming drivers eyes.

The 55w is too much for hi/low replacement IMO. If you go with the 35w 4300k, you will notice a big improvement over the stock lights.
2008 Diesel Prado with extra stuff added. I drive it on the road and other places too.

These lights use one globe and move it between High and Low to overcome any startup lag. Easy to fit only took about 45Min loom supplied.
