Before you ask, yep, I've done a search and haven't found anything.

Just to fill everyone in, I've got a set of IPF 900XS spotties on an ARB deluxe bar. After doing a night trip up north, I reckon their direction is a little off. Since they were installed by a 4WD shop, I am yet to adjust them myself.

Before I rip into it and start undoing things, does anyone have any tips for me on how to adjust these particular lights for the best result?

    Re: Adjusting spotlights

A good starting point is to park the truck a couple of meters in front of a flat wall and aim your spotties using your headlight beams as a guide. take it for a drive to check alignment then readjust to suit

            Re: Adjusting spotlights

            Hi,

One way is to position vehicle a few metres from a wall, then measure from the center of the spot light to the ground.

Draw a line on the wall the same height as the light center measurement then aim the light so that
the middle of the spot of the beam aligns with the line. This will get the beam level to the ground,
when you get in the car the beam will drop a little and hit the road at a distance.

Another way which is what I did and it worked out perfectly is to place the vehicle on a level driveway garage etc.
Get a long spirit level and hold it horizontally across the face of the lights. Adjust each light so that it is square to the level.
If both lights are mounted identically then they should now be pointing straight ahead of the center line of the vehicle.

Now take the level and place it vertical against each light, making sure the level is vertical, adjust the up down position of the
light so that the face of the light is square to the level.

The lights should now be pointing straight ahead of the car and level to the ground.

When you get in the car the nose of the car will drop a little and the lights will point slightly down.

            Hope this makes sense.

            Cheers

Until you load up the car/hook up a trailer... How sensitive are the spotlights to load in the back? I'd imagine that it is quite sensitive as the lightbeam is projected so far out in front. So a small change in angle would mean a big change in projected height

I'm trying to align my spotlights too so absorbing all the tips everyone is making.

What not to do: park on a lonely, dark mine access road with your car in the middle of the road. Why not? Because pissed miners run up the arse of your fourby whilst you are standing at the front adjusting the spotlights. That's why not!

                  Re: Adjusting spotlights

You can do what has already been said to get roughly correct but I also take a couple of towels and find a lonely dark road and hang the towels over normal headlights plus other spotlight then adjust the visible one up/down/side to side until you get what is the best looking for you. Then do the same for other spotlight.

If you have a spot/spread combo you'll need them adjusted slightly different to get best light spread. Don't need spot beam lighting reflectors at 2km. Need it hitting the bitumen at about 500m.

Yes be very carefull about cars coming from behind. Leave hazard lights on or even better have someone sitting in drivers seat watching rear view mirror.
