  • OME Suspension - What do you think :)

    Hello All

    I have a 95 from 1999. I bought it a few weeks ago.

It have a very soft suspension (I think it's the original one). So I need to change it.

I don't have any heavy bumper or winch and don't intent to have one. Also, I don't plan to transport havy stuff on back.

I'd like a suspension to work fine in fast Marrocan tracks

I'd like your advise for medium / heavy duty springs from OME. So in front i't would be OME881 or OME882 and on back OME891 or OME892.
What is your opinion with heavy duty ones?
I like cars with firm suspensions

Re: OME Suspension - What do you think

if you have no additional weight don't go heavy duty, their is a difference between firm and ROUGH!!
Have a look through the other threads on 90 suspension as their is plenty of info wiothout starting another thread.

I do not know about OME - I have fitted Dobinson suspension +35mm - works real fine. Firm on edges, smooth on regular road.

          Hi Hutch

Thanks! My afraid is precisely the difference between firm rough and that's why I asking your opinions. Also, I had read already all threads regarding OME suspension, but until now I don't see anyone talking about 882 and 892 spring.

          Kind regards

Did you notice differences between HD and medium duty?
What are the springs you are using?

I have heavy duty OME +50mm also air bags in the rear and the ride is like driving my SS Commadore except the Prado can go anywhere. As for offroad i let a bit of air out and the ride is beautiful. I also have drawers in the back which made the ride better on bitumen with the added weight.

They installed OME881 and OME890 on mine a few weeks back and it seems firm enough with empty/medium loads.

Of course it's still a little young and hasn't been loaded up heavy yet.

Hello Tonesy. That's a really HD suspension!
How do you feel it when offroading with medium loads?

                          Hello Glen_ep!

Thanks! The main reason to go heavy duty it's because I really don't like the original suspension. It's to soft and when loaded a bit it doesn't give a safe felling when driving offroad a bit faster.

                          Best regards

I hear ya! My old Vitara would drop significantly when loaded up, and felt bad.

Anyway, now on the Prado, the new suspension is definitely firmer than the original Prado sus (plus it's higher!). I'm probably about 900kms in and it's great, but if it get's softer I'll be dissapointed.

We had the medium duty springs on ours before we left on our trip around OZ, but we changed them to HD a week before. The Prado sat alright fully loaded a bit of sag but not to bad but once we hooked up the van it sagged bad. Even with the HD set up at the back and medium at the front the ride is not that bad, can be a bit rough over corrigations unloaded, but when she is loaded she handles like a dream. Here is a Pic with the Prado fully loaded towing the Van with the OME HD suspension on the day we left
