  • D4D stops

    G'day
I was driving up a hill on the GT Western on the eastern side just before Lithgow when the motor lost all power and the engine warning light came on ....bugger ! I stopped the motor and restarted and it came good but the warning light was still on .
I went to the Toyota dealer in Bathurst and was told that they were booked out but they'd look at it for me . Luckily I had a job to do in Bathurst and they drove me there . A few hrs later I was told that it was an "overpressure in the common rail" alarm . They cleared the alarm and said that if it reoccurred the common rail and pressure relief would need to be changed .
I asked if the dealers were on line , so that if the fault did happen again and I went to another dealer they'd be able to access this info ? The answer was no , so you need to insist on a copy of the job sheet that the mechanic fills out detailing what was done and not the customer sheet .
Then I was held up as the dude at the front counter had to get the job approved by the boss in the fishbowl office . I was told that as no parts were changed that they'd have a hard time getting paid for the job . I mentioned that this was warranty and he agreed , but I still had to wait for el supremo to approve the job .
What's this all about , any Tojo mechanics out there who can confirm this please ?
    Cheers

    Re: D4D stops

I used to work for a dealership (Not Toyota) and the dealership had a hard time getting paid for warranty jobs with no parts charged to the job. Also lots of jobs have to be approved by a warranty clerk before they are started in case the car manufacturer won't pay for the job as warranty. Can't speak for Toyota but their process may be the same. One of our car manufacturers would not even pay for labor most of the time only parts.

    Hope this answers your question.

Jee that's a terrible arrangement for the warranty provider . Does that mean that the dealership could have refused my job , if so it should be brought up with Consumer Affairs .

        Re: D4D stops

They can refuse warranty for a variety of reasons but your dealership should do every thing they can to get it covered under warranty as we used to do otherwise they may loose the job and not get paid due to you going elsewhere cheaper. We used to make sure the customer got warranty even if we had to leave a few details out of the repair order. For example blown diffs from customer doing burnouts or CD player malfunctions due to small children putting coins Etc. in Cd unit. If manufacture new this they wouldn't cover warranty. So we wouldn't mention this. I say again I did not work for Toyota so not privy to there procedures but suspect all dealerships are the same. Then some manufactures will nearly cover anything so they don't upset you so you buy another one of their cars for your next vehicle. SAAB is a good example of this. We once had a SAAB with a blown gearbox and it was 2 years out of warranty. SAAB paid for the $5000-$7000 gearbox and customer only had to pay labor cost. Cheap investment for SAAB if it makes you go out and buy another one of their $60000-$80000 plus cars.

I was going to suggest asking "Bathurst Toyota" who was a PP member :!: :!:
Appears that he has cancelled his account :!: :!: :!:
          Anyone know why :?: :?:

            Hi, know how u feel!
About a month ago our d4d stopped on hwy. It continued a coupie of klms in "limp mode" before i turned engine off again.
After 10 min. or so car went again but engine light stayed on for 2 days.
Toyota dealer said there were 2 faults. 1: sand may have been stuck in turbo switch
2: possible problem with trailer brakes
This seemed strange as i had not been on beach for 4-5 weeks & was not using the trailer brakes(why would they stop car??).
As Praodo had only had weeks of warranty left & $7000.00 spent on engine 2 years ago when algae in fuel i traded last week on 4.0 Kakadu.
