    Re: Safari Dtronic

Was going to get one but obtained a DP Chip at a good price. Very happy with it so far, has heaps more pickup above 100kph so should be great help for towing a 2+ tonne van, will find out on saturday. Have done 1000 klms per week for the past 8 weeks and the fuel economy has been great also, SO FAR.
Approx. 1480k's to 162 ltrs. Think it may drop back to around 800k's to 150 lts as in the past with the full van in tow.
As an aside, I have been using air cooled 2 stroke oil in the fuel at 400 to 1mix for nearly 10,000 k's and the injectors/fuel pump are much quieter, and I noticed that the oil does not get any where as discoloured as with straight fuel.
Don't know how that works but have followed a few forums on the subject and it has something to do with cleaner burning supposedly.

      Adam,

I've had one for a few years. It gives a good boost in low end torque and midrange power. I'm happy with it and have never had any issues. However if I was buying again I'd get something that could be tuned on the dyno for my other mods.

From memory the 1kz went from 96 to 118kw and 343Nm to 395Nm, but my memory's fuzzy on this.

Safari no longer sell the Dtronic (apparantly due to being un-competative/un-profitable in the market place). If you want one you'll have to find a second hand one.

        Re: Safari Dtronic

Without covering the advantages/disadvantages of having the chip before or after the ECU for power/engine life etc, (do a search if you wish to read about that), my understanding is that a chip like the Ditronic (pre ECU) works with the cruise control whilst a DPChip does not (post ECU) - since the 1kzte is fly by wire so once the cruise is turned on, the ECU generates the throttle settings internally thus the post ECU chip cannot measure the load requested (throttle position) which it needs to do to change the fuel mapping. The pre ECU device fools the ECU into thinking it needs more fuel so the ECU changes the fuel mapping.

        Am I right?

        Cheers

Correct. You don't really need the add on chip in use on cruise control as it would tend to use more fuel. Only really needed when extra power for overtaking etc is required.

DP chip works when cruise control activated with the D4D.

Different kettle of fish to the 1KZte. Heaps more electronics and sensors involved and the chip is a different model to the 35 from memory.

You sure could use it if running on sand. Prado good without chip but great with chip. Wish I hadn't procrastinated for the last 7 years, bought Prado new in 2003.
