Re: 100 watt HID kit
Hi dallasm,
Plenty of people are running 100Watt driving lights, you shouldn't have any problem,
it is only a additional 15A load on the Alternator. I'm assuming your not running
any other power hungry addons.
Just make sure you put in a heavy duty wiring loom and control relay to power them and don't
try and run them off the headlight wiring.
Cheers

Re: 100 watt HID kit
The 100w HID kits still only use 55W lamp so you are shortening their lifespan significantly. The other issue to watch with 100w ballast is the heat. Unless there is constant airflow over them they will go out on overtemp or start to ignite if the overtemp cutout doesn't work.
Charging system should be able to handle the load, just check what startup current is drawn (wiring issues) before they settle down on constant draw.

Re: 100 watt HID kit
HID kits draw a lot less than normal halogen globes. I would suspect that a 100w HID uses only about 5-6.6 amps.
I personally wouldnt bother and stay with the 55 or 35 kits. They offer enough light output and you wont have the problem of frying stuff.

100W should draw around 8.5-8.8 amps consistently plus a bit more for startup.

Re: 100 watt HID kit
I have just converted my headlights to h4 hi/low 35w hid. The difference is very significant. For the life of me, I cannot see how anyone would really need any more than 55w hid in driving lights. The output from them is amazing. I just came back from a 4 day trip out west, with my friend in front with the 55 watters. I was behind his vehcile all the way back from Broken Hill, and was extremely impressed with the 55w driving lights. Now on my own shopping list.
I totally agree with Mr Piggy. Get 55w hid and save yourself any problems that may arise with the 100w kit.2008 Diesel Prado with extra stuff added. I drive it on the road and other places too.
