  • Prado 150 1KD 3.0L Fuel economy figures

Ok so the cars done 10000kms now and had its first service.

Fuel economy over that time has been 9.2 with a full mix of city and highway driving with manual.

Excellent for such a large vehicle.

    Hows everyone else going?

Doing a little better than me, currently sitting at 800km and 10.2/100 which is city and highway as well. Hopefully as the engine beds in the economy will increase. That being said still no complaints given the size of the vehicle. My HSV is lucky to get below 17-18L/100 and it weighs a ton less!!!

        Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

I have only had the shorty for 5 days but I am already loving the economy.
I had to drive from Melbourne to Echuca today and got 8.1l/100km and that is with only 400km on the motor.
If it is anything like my other diesels it won't hit it's best economy until 15-20,000km.
        Thanks,

        Adam

          Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

I'd agree with the improvement around the 10k mark. I can already feel the engine freeing up - getting much better now.

By the way my fuel figures are using my fuel card to record distance to litres.

the computer figure is more like 9 flat

            Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

I am only getting around 12l/100 admittedly it has all been short drives so far but I would have hoped for better than this. Will be mentioning it to the dealer at the first month/1000km service so far done about 450km.

I also find it very hard to keep the 'ECO' light on, unless I am driving really really conservatively when accelerating I lose the green ECO until coasting along again. I am tempted to turn it off cos I am sick of the light flashing away at me. I have never had a diesel before, maybe I am driving it too heavy footed

              Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

I'm VERY impressed with the fuel economy of mine. Not sure what I got on my first tank but second tank was 9.1 around the burbs, current tank is indicating 8.6(!) on the calibrated scanguage. Admittedly I do get a good run to work. I used to get around 10.5-11.0 doing the same driving in the Pajero.

now that is a truer figure. - has anyone actually checked their speedo's to be able to trust the computer figure given?

mine reads around 9.5-10 on a trip and around 12 running around. diesel, auto.

i have larger tyres and a speedo that has been recalibrated to make certain the figures are correct.

still, at only 3000kms old, i expect this to improve.

                  Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

I had 9L/100kms on my first run in tank, which involved pedal to the floor almost everywhere and sporadic gears + RPM with highway driving. This figure was measured with diesel carefully filled to the brim (without froth).

After the Tunit diesel computer and 3" Genie turbo back exhaust, I am seeing an average of 6.4L/100kms on the factory display for highway driving at 115kph. I've yet to refill but I think it's a lot more fuel efficient with the mods.

                    6krpm,
The tunit module will most probably make the factory readout inaccurate. You will need a scanguage to get the actual figure.
Thats not to say you wouldnt get better fuel economy (mainly from the exhaust upgrade) but 6.4!!

How much was your genie exhaust? Is it any louder than stock? I'm keen to hear your thoughts on it.

                      Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

Have just clocked 850ks, and according to comp average of 8.5 ltr/100k. It included 45% city and 55% open road. I think thats good considering the low ks. It is a 150 diesel auto.
                      Very happy at this stage!!

My shorty's done about 8000km - the overall average is 10l/100km (according to computer), but get under 8 on highway trip tanks about 9.2 for around the town tanks but have blasted it up to 14 on soft sand beach/ bush bashing weekends of which there has been a few!

Could not be more impressed with fuel economy. But I agree with davidsford, that ECO light is near impossible to keep off, unless cruise control is engaged then its always on, even when it kicks back to hold 120kmh up a hill!

What was the cost of the Tunit and are you happy with any increased power? I was going to get a DP Chip but the price seems to have gone up a lot. I bought my last DP chip 2 years ago and I paid $1150 for it but now they want $1500!!!! Does anyone know a cheaper place to get them?
                          Thanks,

There is a mob in Sydney (Castle Hill Exhaust) that do Tunit chips, but they are $1400 from memory so not much difference.

                              Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

Just over 3000 on the clock, two 1000 KM return runs to the country, the rest city driving (live in Brisbane)...Country runs I was getting about 9 per 100Km, city is about 10.2 (which I feel is excellent)....I don't use it for commuting (I live near a train station so why bother)....so I must say so far so good.

My previous vehicle was a petrol Honda Acord Euro (little 2.3 lite 4) and to be honest I was doing slightly better on the country runs, but worse in the city......so overall VERY happy!!
