Re: Ruff Idle
Hi Guys,
First to admit I'm no mechanic...But I just had this exact problem in my magna last weekend. Even the bit about dropping into N or P at the lights etc.
Turned out to be the leads and plugs - which I got replaced at service the very next day.
They said you probably have to change these every 70-80 000 k's (we got 163000 k's out of our first set so not bad).
Not sure of the difference between diesel and petrol engines in this respect thought.
It was easily tested though - get the RACQ/ RACV bloke out to test before you wander down to Toyo.

Re: Ruff Idle
My D4D shuddering has been steadily getting worse so I put it in today to be checked out and sure enough the turbo is dying. They are ordering a new one for it, I actually knew the turbo was on the way out while it was in warranty as it was picked up by the service department down in Maitland in NSW and I put it in to a dealer in Adelaide to have it repaired but they said there was nothing wrong with it. Well now it is out of Toyota warranty and the dealer here says yep the turbo is failing. Luckily I have an extended warranty through the leasing company so it will be covered, I am still going to call Maitland tomorrow to ask them to fax me a copy of my job sheet from there which noted on it that the turbo needed to be replaced.Roll on the 2010 Pradopoint GTG

Funny you should say that Samo, we are actually heading down to Adelaide on Saturday, now I am worried we may blow a turbo on the way down or on the way back on the following Tuesday.Roll on the 2010 Pradopoint GTG

Good luck,,,
Yeah we have been considering this too Matt, however we are thinking 200 series instead. Not sure yet as we are waiting on inheritance proceeds to come through and there are some months yet before that is finalised.Roll on the 2010 Pradopoint GTG

There are quite a few things that could cause bad idle...ie Air Flow Meter, O2 sensor but yes on petrol cars leads + plugs would be the first thing i'd be checking

Re: Ruff Idle
Took my D4D into Toyota on Friday with same issue expecting them to give me the run around and say no issue. Tried to pick it up at 3.00pm and they said NO, must leave it here for new injectors and new pipes, will take a week for parts to be flown in from Japan. Service rep was saying that the injectors were delivering to much fuel and they were concerned that this could cause pinging and further damage.
After further discussion they gave me a loan car at no charge.
