  • By pass filters

People this is my first post in this forum as before I had a Explorer but the fuel consumption killed me there .I wasn't too sure about going this way but I have ordered a SX for my first Toyota . but can't have it until May .Anyway what I'm asking is I had a bypass engine oil filter system on my EX and I would like to put it on the SX . It is a good one AMSOIL and it did work very well with my EX .Has anyone done this yet on any Toyota diesel????? :?:

      Re: By pass filters

I have used the by pass system for awhile and it is great . I use Amsoil (US) as it seems to be a pretty good product . The aim of it is to fine filter the engine oil of finer particles which a normal oil filter fails to capture .Truckers and forklift operators and such have been using this idea for years .It extends the life of the oil and as such longer times between oil changes and also engine life . There is a on line web site which can explain the idea of a by pass system .I have the BMK 23 system
www.amsoil.com/bypass filters/instructions/bmk23_bp252.pdf or go to their home page Amsoil.com. There are different models to suit different applications
There are also a number of Australian distributors as well just Google" amsoil Australian sellers"
The bypass filters are not cheap .The one I use is about 70-80 AU but as I change it every second oil change it is not so bad .I'm sorry I don't have photos at this time as I'm still waiting for my 150 SX which will be May delivery.I want to add this to my engine as it allows me to use 2 filters 1 full flow and one bypass which will also allow me to add extra oil .
I have to go now so I'll be back later. Cheers Foxy 49

        Re: By pass filters

Does not seem a bad idea just the expense and hassle to install. The only plus I can see is if it does filter out more impurities then fine but if you have to only buy thier filters then it could make it cost prohibtive. I would prefill the filter for sure. The only other problem I see if that it is one more hose system to get a leak in that could cause you very much grief in the bush if you damage it.

          Re: By pass filters

yes I can see your point but if you mount the system high in the engine bay there shouldn't be a problem .Yes there are other filters available from different sellers it is all about choice I guess .The system I'm using id AN10 which is 12mm size hydraulic high temp and pressure hoses . I use a sandwich with 2 options .One just has a outlet and inlet 12mm that screws onto the oe filter position with the 2 hoses up to the filter where I have a temperature and pressure sender unit's .the other has the temperature and pressure options at the engine filter position also with the second option I have 2 high flow filters allowing more engine oil to be used .I use gauges because they tell me what's happening before the oe indicators do after something has gone wrong . If you look at the Amsoil site in the US they give you a good write up about the advantages of a by pass system .
If you have done, just for an example, an transmission oil change you would have noticed a fine film on the bottom of the pan which you have to wash off when you do the service on it,this is the material which a by pass filter system should remove from the engine oil
I'm not a seller of Amsoil just a satisfied user. I bought my unit from the US before I became aware of Aussie sellers and having a Ford Explorer it is what the Ford forum site people recommended .but now she is gone and as some would say "you have seen the light" and bought a series SX D4D Prado which unfortunately I have to wait until May to get it Cheers Foxy49
