Greetings all,
I have an 05 V6 petrol. About 3 to 4 mths ago, I noticed on the odd occasion, when the key was flicked, the starter would engage breifly then disengage, but the starter would continue to spin until the timer quit (about 4 sec). Like everthing in life, "I'll look at it on the weekend" Well, the free weekend has never come and the problem has gradually got worse. On average, the engine eventually starts after about 8 attampts.
The battery is fine (6 mths old)
Disconnecting the solenoid exciter wire and taking a separate lead directly from the battery +ve to the solenoid, results in the same symptoms as above.
Based on the above, I've concluded that the solenoid is stuffed. I've tried tracking one down thru Toyota and 6 auto electricians but they all have the same answer, available, but you've gotta wait about 3 weeks. A complete starter motor is on the shelf, but it's about $600 genuine.
Any ideas please?
Cheers Mark
