  • Running in a Diesel Engine

Hi every one this is my first post.
We will be picking up our new gxl prado 150 6 speed manual early march.
This is the first car we have owned that is diesel. Need some advice on running in the engine before towing our caravan.

thanks in advance Lazie Fog

Run it in as per the owners manual and you cannot go wrong. That's what the warranty is based off.

No hard acceleration or deceleration. Short shift all the way through the gears. Don't sit on same rev range for to long, don't tow anything for 1st 1000km. I'd drop engine oil after 1st 1000km just for peace of mind. All else fails read owners manual

Re: Running in a Diesel Engine

As above with most modern cars there is no particular run in schedule these days, most manufacturers reccoment no towing, no cruise control and no long perods of constant speed for first 1000k.

You will normally then have a complimentary inspection and oil change (if you want to freak yourself out ask to see the drain plug with all the little bits of metal on it) domt stress it is a normal bedding in process, after that have fun
Dont list all ya mods, you will only be more upset when i get further

They also say don't let it idle to warm up, but let it idle for a minute or so after a hard run before shutting down the engine.

( I wonder how many average Prado diesel owners actually do the last bit )
          Cheers, Wayne

When I took mine in for the 1000k service they said it didn't include an oil change. I asked them to do it anyway and had to pay for it

Great advice cheers guys, however does anyone know what the manual says? We pick our Diesel 150 up next week and we need to drive it 300km back from dealer on the coast.

Thats no problem, 300kms is a walk in the park for your new D4D truck, I would stop somewhere along the way and check all is OK and under the bonnet, but you will most probably be to busy enjoying your driving experience.
