G'day all
I have a service manual (CD) on order at the moment, so I may be able to answer this question myself in a week or two, but...
Can you fit a (toyota) cruise control to the early GX models that didn't come with one? I have an '03 GX 4 litre petrol, 5 speed manual.
I have previously fitted cruise to a car that was designed to have it (in one of the various models), but didn't. All of the wiring was there, it was a case of fitting up the control switch, actuator, a relay and the control module.
Things should be even simpler on the prado because of electronic throttle control and the fact that the computer is already wired up to the speed sensor and controls the throttle.
I have the 'basic' steering wheel (vinyl as opposed to leather), but it still has ports in the side to attach the extras and the rotating ring for the airbag/horn/etc has a big plug in it that only has the horn wire in it at present, but one assumes it could also take the cruise control wiring (not to mention radio controls).
Any ideas? Anyone ever done this? Aftermarket cruise controls that can do electronically controlled throttles cost a bomb ($500-800 or so), and I can't even find one in Aus. So depending on the cost, I figured it would be smarter to get the bits from Toyota (or a wrecker) and fit the Toyota genuine parts if possible.
Cheers
Owen
