  • NewPro-Tech HID kit installed.

Hi All got myself a set of Newpro-tech HID's 35 Watts and 4300k which come with the slim line Digital Ballasts which measure 15mm thick. First off, I must say I have had a fair few sets of HID kits so I'm not new to HID's.

Some of the previous HID's I bought are the cheap an nasty type which "THUMP" loudly when you switch from Low beam to High Beam which didn't seem right.

The latest KIT I have from NewPro Tech which compared to others I have had in the past is the bees knees. It is a 35watt H4 kit with 4300k globes (other colours are available I believe). Warm up is about 5 seconds odd which is as quick as most Factory HID's, there is no annoying thumping when you switch from Low to High beam and vice versa. The NewPro Tech ballasts are the new type which are a digital microprocessor, rather than a capacitor type which means they are only 15mm thick as opposed to 32mm for the old style the newpro ballasts also have a much better mounting system and don't flop around. The NewPro kits are also waterproof (although I have not tested this) and shock proof. The kit contains enough wiring for a Prado and is dead simple to install. Installation took 1.5 hours with a few drink stops along the way. Cost is only around $170 bloody Brilliant !

    Cheers Wally

Yes I was told there is a conversion avalaible soon for IPF driving lights. From what I was told when I ordered the H4 kit, driving light kits are being tested at the moment, the guy at NewPro has been testing these kits for 2 years. So the driving light kits should be good. A quick drive around the block tonight proved they are well worth it. The Digital ballasts are supposed to be 15% brighter than the older style ballasts. The headlights seemed brighter to me but it would be hard to measure unless you did a side by side test.

        sounds good Wally,

While they are easy to fit and throw more light I was wondering how good the beam pattern is?

Any chance of a photo of low beam shining against a wall so we can see how good the cut off is ..?
From what I have seen that is the failing of these HID conversions, a poor low beam cut off which can dazzle/blind on coming traffic
And of course draw the attention of the boys in blue, a friend of mine was fined for running HID's so it does happen.

Anyway if a photo is possible it would be good as Prado's lights are appalling as we all know.

I have found that the HID has a standard Prado drop off, that dreaded dead spot in the drivers long view.
They do also dazzle, I think its the slot in the globe shadow reflector, creates a lot of upwards spill, I know I have been told by a number of friends that they arte a bastard to drive in front of at night.

I have just blown a HID slider bulb and am making the decision on either going back to 4300K bulbs or putting the Halogen Fatboys back in. No way I could go back to standard bulbs though! They were truly the Shite..

Yes it is illegal to run them and the cops are starting to wise up on them quite well. You can be fined and defected.

The mask (cut off) is much more noticable with HID's even so with Factory fitted HID's. With all the kits I have had I have never had anyone flash their lights at me. But then again I am using 4300k which is probably why. Some people run 6000k or 8000k which is blueish or purple. These tend to be brighter and dazzle on coming cars, 6000k and higher are usless on wet roads and at dusk.

Yes it is annoying when people install HID's into the headlamps as these lamps are not self leveling and the spread is a lot more, dazzling other drivers...and yes POLICE are cracking down on it. hint hint.
