  • Ignition sense wiring

Apologies if this subject has been covered beofre did a search and game up with nothing, at least not specific enough.

Shortly I will be installing a commercial radio (25w tait 2000 series) into a vehicle and for safety reason (no dual battery set-up) I am planning to wire it up so when the igniton is off so is the radio.

Due to the current load a relay must be used to prevent overloading the OEM wiring.

Any ideas & wiring diagrams gratefully accepted.

    Cheers

    Re: Ignition sense wiring

    Hi Dean,

Radio should be wired directly from the battery, run wire from positive side of battery directly
to a thermal circuit breaker or a fuse then through a 30A relay (contacs close when relay is operated)
to the radio. You should also run a negative from the battery to the radio. If radio needs to maintain
it's memory you will need to run another wire from the fuse to the radio also.

One side of the relay coil should goto earth, run the other side to accessory positive, the radio
will then only operate when the ignition is on or in accessory posistion. Make sure the relay is
designed to be powered on for long periods else it migh over heat.

You can buy battery terminals with inbuilt fuses to make the job a bit easier, see ABR sidewinders
    web for examples.

Keep all wiring as far away from ECU's as possible and make sure you earth the antenna base to the chassis
    with earth braid.

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers

      Leigh,

That exactly what I'm chasing - just need to do research on suitable relay.

      Thanks
