  • Centre dash instruments

    G'day guys,

This is my first post, so go easy on me.

Here is a dosy! is it possible to swap the clock digital display of GXL to a VX or Grande one?
The reason i would like to do this is because it has all the extra info on it, trip meters, fuel to go etc.

Easy job to replace the display, problem will be whether the senders etc. will be available to get the data.

Even bigger problem will be the parts quote from Toyota.

If its just distance to empty, fuel consumption kind of stuff you're after, consider a Scanguage2 for a few hundred ....

Bugger me that is getting to be a long thread - it might take a while to get through but will do most of what I think you're looking for from the dash pod...

I asked Toyota the same question.

Also got the same quote, just under $800 for parts. But nobody at the dealer could tell me if it would work. They did say they would have their guy investigate it, but I never heard anything back, and didn't really expect to.

It looks like the compass is built into the part, but I am not sure about the fuel consumption. I would have guessed, just like the scanguage, it would take raw info such as tank level and odometer from the ECU and do the maths itself. It would also need calibrating like the scanguage. I also assume all the required connectors would be there.

I would love to have the $800 spare myself to test but I don't. Got too many other more necessary mods and accessories to buy.

I have an 04 TD and looked into this at length a few years ago, without luck.

I will be very interested to see if anyone has an update on this.
