  • Prodigy Controller advice

    Guys,
I recently had a Prodigy brake controller fitted to the 2005 120 and am not sure if I have an error. According to the instructions when the trailer is disconnected the unit should display 2 LED lights. I only have one LED light displayed (the left of the two). When the trailer is connected the unit appears to function correctly. Does anyone else only have 1 x LED displayed with the trailer disconnected? I searched the archive but no luck. I have read on another forum that a user has only 1 x LED displayed and that he considerss this normal. Advice appeciated.

      Hi rickb,

According to the owners manual the right hand led indicates that the "boost on"
feature is active. This is programmable from the menu.

      Cheers

Snap! I'm getting mine wired next week also, running out of time to get ready for the GTG

FYI it won't fit in the ashtay without sticking out a fair way. I fitted mine to the left of the steering wheel.

I just fitted a P3 into the ash tray slot and it fits great. . Any further in and you wouldn't be able to access the manal override.
I fitted it using the the plastic cradle supplied with the P3 and a simple aluminium bracket I made.
I only needed to drill two holes which will be covered if the prodigy is removed and the ash tray replaced.

I'll take a some pics and post when I get home.

So unless someone else can explain why I only have one LED displaying when not connected it looks like I have an error.

Here are some pics of my P3 installation in the ash tray hole:

The key is to remove not only the ash tray but the surround also. The surround just unclips.

I just had to make a simple offset bracket to lower the unit 10mm. The bracket is bolted on top of the the small metal bracket supplied for use with the plastic cradle.

Nice work, what's the trick to unclipping the surround?

No trick to unclipping the ash tray sorround, you just need to push in a couple of small tabs. I found it very straight forward as I removed the entire lower facia section that includes the cigarette lighter (this facia just unclips once the the silver side pieces have been removed), it may be more difficut if you are trying to do it with the facia in place.

                        Hi guys,

As mentioned above REDARC has a lot less visual impact on the vehicle if your looking for a nice neat
install, only uses on switch blank position. It is not a proportional type controller though. After chatting to
the manufacture, proportional controllers might not be the way to go though if you have ABS fitted.
Under sever braking conditions the ABS will be locking / unlocking wheels for maximum braking and to
allow your truck directional control. Under these conditions the brake controller will be applying maxium
braking to the trailer and possible causing wheel lockup on the trailer (no ABS on trailer, we all tend to set
the maxium braking on nice dry roads, do you reset yours on wet roads or gravel etc?)) and causing the
vechile to be pushed and loss of control.

                        Food for thought anyway!

                        Cheers

Wow, I must say I have never experienced as fast a shipper as the seller on ebay that I got my Prodigy P3 from. Crikey I only pushed the buy button on afternoon of the 26th of May and it was in my letter box today the 29th of May. Came completed with a 25 amp relay so I am pretty happy with the $195 cost which included delivery. I just cannot get over how fast it was delivered.
