  • Radio Weirdness

When I had my Prado worked on the other day they disconnected the battery and my radio is now showing SEC in the display. I follow the procedure to enter the PIN as per the manual, press and hold 'seek' then press the '1' key. This doesn't work and my radio keeps displaying SEC. Anybody else seen this?

    Re: Radio Weirdness

I did this the other month, I didnt have the pin from the original owner, I had to take it to Toyota, they reset it and at the same time removed the pin facility so if the batteries disconnected again it wouldnt have the problem. Cost me $40 bucks! haha..

Thanks guys, I'm visiting a mate tomorrow who just happens to be a Toyota Service Manager and has the tool to remove the offending code

Let's hope it works and it's not the radio that's shagged.

        Update - all fixed

          Re: Radio Weirdness

I disconnected my battery on my Mazda6 a few years ago. The service manual did not have the pin code written down by the dealer and I was not instructed by the dealer during hand over of the new car. As the dealer did not inform me this would occur, they had to reset the radio pin for free.

My stereo has a different procedure. When the vehicle is new it asks you to insert a CD to set the code. wen you are locked out you just have to reinsert the CD. There is a space in the handbook to write down that CD. If it is ever lost you can borrow your mates CD or buy a new one. I went with Back in Black since it was a common CD and is easily borrowed if i loose my copy.

              Ben,

That seems like a great idea -

and then I thought, what if you left your favourite CD in the radio before its stolen?

... but then I don't bother with the security code anyway.

After seeing how the radio comes out I won't be setting a security code again

                  Re: Radio Weirdness

My dealer set the code on my Radio predelivery.

I found this after I setup a dual battery system. Thankfully, after some searching, I discovered a card in with the user manual, with what the code was set too.

I have since disabled the code, I guess its a good idea thieves might not bother trying to steal the radio, which saves the mess and break in, but its a pain when it takes several days to sort out. Never realised how much I miss the radio.

                    Re: Radio Weirdness

This is a late answer, but I had same problem recently. I tried a few different things and found solution was to do what you shouldn't do. Removed radio fuse, turn to on acc, replace fuse while live power carefully, Radio comes on (hopefully), CD changer makes a few noises (wait), then tried Seek ^ and 1 and it worked. Able to enter radio code.

                      Re: Radio Weirdness

Before anyone else coughs up money to a dealer for their radio PIN, try the last 4 digits of your VIN number as this is the factory default PIN at delivery.

I was told that by Toyota so I tried and did not work not saying this is incorrect but it is also possible the codes have been changed by previous owners

Toyota Prado 2001 Radio SEC lockout

Regarding our Toyota Prado 2001 01, after the battery had been removed SEC was showing on the cd / tape / radio display.

                          1) To remove the security SEC warning, find the last 3 digits of your VIN number (under the hood) hold down the "TUNE" button and then press "1"
                          2) Use the numbers 1 2 and 3 to type in the last 3 digits of your VIN number.
                          3) Quickly hold down "SCAN" button, the radio will power off, then press the volume button to turn it back on.

-I accidentally held down "auto" before holding down scan, I don't think auto has any part of fixing this (just an error on my part) but if the above doesn't work, you could try hold AUTO down after entering the digits then hold scan - just as I did.

Hopefully SEC has now been removed, enjoy your radio!
