  • P0622 Check Engine Code Error

    Hi all,

I just thought I'd share with you a problem I had this weekend. I had just hooked up my brand new Coromal caravan and loaded up the family for a trip up to Crescent head for a week. Half way there I had the Check Engine light illuminate. I have a scangauge and it was showing error code P0622. I looked it up on the net and could find very little info on it. The engine went into protection mode and basically stopped putting charge to the battery. The NRMA thought it was a blown alternator. A call and tow to a local Toyota dealership later I found out that this code is caused by a blown fuse (under the drivers dashboard) and had to do with the wiring for the caravan. After a little trial and error, (and another fuse) I was able to work out that disconnecting the reverse wire (pin 2) on the standard 7 pin plug fixed the problem of fuses blowing as each time I selected reverse the fuse would blow.

I will be talking to the Coromal dealer on Monday to see what would possibly cause this obvious short in the van. Hope this helps someone if they get stuck on the side of the road with a full load of kids and van.

    Cheers,

Pin 2 on my caravan (black wire) - a Jayco is used to power the 12V/Gas/240V three way fridge when I'm travelling. Mine can draw 12 amps. Maybe this was too much for your fuse under the dash. Reversing lights should only draw about (4*18 watts - 72 Watts) 6 amps. My caravan doesn't have reversing lights (yet!). I'm going to use a 12 pin flat plug to allow for this (and other things too).

I had similar problem with my Jayco outback camper. Would close camper down having switched the fridge to 12 volt. As I hooked van up to car the fuse would blow in the van and fridge would simply not work. I discovered that my trailer connector plug was melting from the inside. Replaced it with the fat round connector. It had electric brakes which I thought was the problem. All the wiring was good.

Turned out it was the inverter box inside the van blowing the fuzes everytime I hooked up. I ended up hard wiring the fridge from the on-board deep cycle which was trickle charged from the car via Anderson plug. Jayco never properly repaired the inverter problem. I got rid of the Jayco a couple of years back.
