  • Wiring Piranha 180S Dual Battery Isolator

Apologies if this has already been covered on this great forum however havn't been able to find an answer by searching so will ask for help.
I need an ignition source (13.2v) preferably under the bonnet to wire in my Piranha Isolator. Instructions suggest the wiper motor. Can anyone tell me what colour wire going to the wiper motor will give me power when the ignition is on?

Re: Wiring Piranha 180S Dual Battery Isolator

I tried isolating the power source from the wiper motor but gave up, due to a number of reasons, potential damage to gromets, wires, cutting into harness which would open it up to dirt, mud, plus hard to remove when selling vehicle etc...

I run the heavy duty battery cable (plus the unit power source) along the fire wall. The heavy cable has its own corrugated cable protector and the unit power source runs with a number of other additional wires in another corrugated cable protector. I have seen other people's setups where they run the heavy cables over the radiator in the spare space above it(this is how OS cold climate toyota prados are set up), but I do a fair bit of outback travel where things get pretty bloody hot and didn't want to risk any cable melts.

I run the second battery earth down to a chassis bolt as the earth bolt adjacent to the second battery tray was a little thin for me.

After a couple of locations in previous vehicles, I have mounted the control unit on the two spare bolts holes on the lefthand side of the engine bay (next to the fuel filters). I made up an alloy bracket to mount the control unit about 20mm off the panel work, this stops the heavy duty cable rubbing the paint off. It is also high enough to be the last thing to go under (i.e. higher than all the toyota fitted electronic gear).

I source the unit power from inside the cab from the blue/yellow ignition-On wire accessible from removing the fuse cover.

Pict credit goes to LivefreeandRoams from the post (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2671&start=0).

Previously I have fitted two other brands of battery trays, but engine heat combined with outback heat aren't the best for any type of battery. This time I have fitted the battery tray with a rear sheild (I think it is made by Outback Ideas) it is available from TJM stores. This sheilds a bit of heat coming from the engine.
