  • Trailer lights issue (LED)

Hi all, I have a 2007 VX with Toyota fitted tow kit. I have 2 trailers one with normal lights and a boat trailer with LED lights. Everything is fine with the normal lights however when I hook up the boat trailer strange things happen. I turn on my park or headlights the break lights on both the trailer and the Prado come on. I have checked and double checked the wiring and all seems ok. It's fine driving duirng the day, indicators work, break lights works, turn on the headlights and different story.

Is there something i need to modify so I can use LED lights on a trailer?

By the way..pradopoint is a fantastic source of information..props to all who contribute.

I have LED lights on my off road box trailer. No problems. The LEDs need to have resisters to give the circuit enough load to work properly but it sounds almost like a bad earth. Are the LED lights proprietary items simply wired into the usual place?

Some where on the trailer there is a short.
It can be hard to find sometimes, how old is the trailer?
I replaced some old wiring on my Dad's trailer after being unable to find the source of a short, only to find the insulation was cracked and broken inside the 7 core trailer flex when it was removed.

By the way can you put your location in your profile....

I have LEDs on my trailer and they work without the need for load resistors. I'd be looking for a short in the wiring.
