  • McBAIN's Dual Battery Install

After picking up the Waeco a few weeks back i figured it was time to do something about the battery setup in the beast. I picked up a few bits from ABR after ARB told me they don't make kits for the 120 any more (go figure) and TJM wanted close to $1200 for the whole install.

stage 1 of the install here - thanks to this clown for his assistance as usual! although not as much swearing as usual involved with this install.

total cost $700 neat including all the wiring, plugs, circuit breakers, rear sockets and the battery, as well as a battery fuel guage which I'm yet to install (or find a place to put!)

next step is to cleanup the wires running all over the place for the the IPF's, Rust protection, Sub and soon to be installed FM antenna booster from the primary to the aux battery, and then run the cables to the back!

            Re: McBAIN's Dual Battery Install

I bought my dual battery system from ABR for my 90 series on Ebay several years ago, I think I paid around $100 for the complete kit. Looks like they have gone up a bit since then.

Not long after I bought it it started to chatter really badly and it wasnt charging, I started to wonder if I had been dudded. Then I found that cable from the isolator to the main battery had come loose ops: , once tightened its work like a charm ever since.

The brass battery terminals with multiple terminals are handy.

Yep - I had the same issue with mine Piranha - found the same issue - got mine installed when I bought the car by the dealer - a reputable installation (ie Chain) installed it for them and looks like they were relying on the heatshrink to keep the + wire on the battery.... needless to say, I did what I always do and pretty much redid the install myself!

Love the install, have marked that little mod for later in the year. Any reason why you put the isolator on the passenger side? or am I looking at the pic wrong

only because that's where a free spot was!

i wanted the other side for fuse box/circuit breakers when i run the cables off the second battery too.

ok then. I was looking at using that area for the compressor when i install it, although the isolator does not look that big, should be no probs to have both on the same side

still enough room for the compressor. i plan on picking up one that's a bit smaller than the one I have and will still put it back up there.
