  • Sydney workshops/electrical installers

I'm about to part with some hard earned cash to get a number of things added to my rig and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as who to use to do the work?

Things that I don't trust myself to do include:

    - install dual battery system (Petrol '08 prado GXL) and run new wires to rear 12V plugs.
    - wire a connection for the Engel fridge I just picked up second hand
    - install a UHF radio & Antenna (looking at the GME TX3400 - not sure about which antenna to get?)

Other things I'm looking for and would welcome recommendation on are:
    - rooftop tent (has anyone braved one of the eBay cheeapies??)
    - Air compressor (have been recommended the Bluetongue IV)

    cheers and thanks in advance!

    Gavin

    Re: Sydney workshops/electrical installers

Looks like and smells like a tech day may be the way to go! I'm sure some of us can jump in and lend a hand for a fellow PP'er. I can't help until the new year as I'm off on holidays from Sunday. I'm not sure of anyone over your way that can do this for you. In saying that I am more than willing to lend a hand in late Jan (depending on work), the only thing I haven't done is the dual battery set up. Check out my set up for ideas if you want. HERE

If you can't fix it with a hammer...... you have an electrical problem.

Thanks Big fella - what a generous offer!!! Would love to do that as no doubt I would learn a S&*t load in teh process.
Only challenge is that I'm taking off on a 6 week trip just before xmas so need to have most of it done in the next 3 weeks!!

would still welcome the idea of a tech day in Feb when I get back!!

          Hi Gavin,

I am also up on the Northern Beaches.......(Don't think there is anyone else ?)
There is a very prominent 4X4 franchise on the Northern Beaches that (from personal experience) I would highly recommend you stay away from (if you are looking at someone local?) PM me if you want the details.
ARB Northside, at Artarmon are very hard to beat, if a bit on the dear side. Their work is first class though.
Happy to have a chat, and / or help in any way I can.

yeah how about a Sydney tech day early in the new year. I have nothing to contribute except a desire to learn and a pair of hands to assist in any task,

oh and to meet some fellow PP's

                Gday Reef,

I just had some work done on Thursday by Macquarie 4x4 and I was impressed by the work they did and I got a bit of a discount off the standard ARB prices from them, so they may be worth investigating for you. I had them install a GME TX3420 UHF and GME AE4018K1 aerial, as well as a cargo barrier and deluxe winch bar.

Although I haven't had much of a chance to test out the aerial, it didn't seem to have much of a problem picking up any signals across the Bells line of road in stormy conditions, which is probably a good test of an aerial. It's also an elevated feed antenna which helps if you have to mount it low on an ARB bar, however it's not high enough to clear the above roof line, which may cause some issues picking up signals to the rear of the car.
