  • Getting wired on top..

    Hi guys!

Anybody has a good idea how to get a powercable from inside the car and up to the spotties and the workinglights on the roofrack???

Maybe throug the backdoor some how or must one do drilling through the roof??

Happy to hear your thougts on the subject.

    Cheers Joakim

I would run this from the engine bay up the side of the windscreen, tucked in snuggly, and then up to the roofrack. Also try having a look at Chippy's build up as I recall he ran power to his lights on the rack. Might be some details there on what he did.

I would never contemplate the idea of a drill for this.

I ran a wire from inside the vehicle. Poked a hole in the rubber that the wires run through to the rear door then up the side of the rear door rubber and up to the roof. Carefully held in place with some strategically placed black silicone next to the tail light.

      Cheers

        Thanks guys!

Looked at chippys bildup but couldnīt see any wireing that could give me a clue.

Steve, your idea sounded good. Maybe you can take some pictures of it to visualise it for me.
What size of cable would be neccesary for 4 HID drivinglights and 4 workinglights and 2 extra reverselights?

        Have a nice day

are you going to be running a 4 HID off the 1 power wire?
if so 6mm wire will do or 2 4mm wires would be safer and give loss voltage drop, as your wires will be long.
to run 4 worklights you would be best to run 2 4mm wires as halogen globes consume more power than HID's.
and 2 reverse lights only need a 4mm wire to run them.
what wattage globes are you going to be running in worklights and reverse lights?

from memory chippy was running power from and andersen plug for his rear worklights.

Maybe, I havn't looked recently but I thought he had an Anderson linked into those four rectangular spotties up top. You could be right there Swede about not having any detail about the wiring in his build up thread. Sorry bout that.

Not wanting to be a wet blanket....

But mounting spotties above the level of the headlights is illegal in most states.
Might be worth checking before you put all the work into running wiring.

Im sure if the lights are not too over the top and the vehicle looks ok you will be left alone.
Im sure if you play mr nice they leave you alone.

                  Re: Getting wired on top..

                  Hi guys!

Damonat; I havenīt really determind how Iīm gonna do all the wiring yet, but from what I could understand I should have two 4mm to the HIDs and one 4mm to the 4 worklights(55watts, they will probably not be used under any longer periods) and another 4mm to the 2 reverselights (55w)
Thatīs going to be a whole lot of cables thatīs going up there!
Someone made something like this before? Pics maybe?

The HID Iīm gonna use are not legal for use in Europe (they apparently shine too much) at least not yet, so Iīm not so concerned about if someone should complain about their height above the car That would be a minor problem

To look at the hids go to www.nbb.se and then "produkter" then "extraljus" and "xenon" Bingo!! alpha 225 HID

                  Cheers
