  • Connectors at back of Glove Box

Looking at putting an auxiliary distribution box inside the cabin to feed low power equipment, Phones, MP3 etc. Eventually all this will be taken from the 2nd battery when I get around to installing it but in the meantime I will use existing 12v feeds.
After removing the glove box I notice there are two connectors which can be accessed via the cut out in the LH side of the inner glove box shell. (see image)
I have to confirm the pins to be sure but a quick check with the meter I am almost sure showed switched and constant +5v and +12v.
Anybody know what this connector is for?
A search has not revealed anything that I can see.

I will have a guess and say CD stacker. I have seen on the earlier models that they mount the stackers in the glovebox cutout at the top.

Hmmm if so this might be a great place to power a UHF from and mount it in the vacant slot...

Now that makes perfect sense. Good idea with the UHF mount idea too.

Everything in that part of the loom is ECU related, the plugs are for the suspension control ECU, Rear diff lock ECU and climate control ECU etc etc not fitted to all models.

The 5 volt output would be a regulated supply from the main body or engine ECU and I suspect the 12 volt could be also. I'd be very wary of using them to run any accessories until you confirm the source and what protection they have. Any voltage outputs from either ECU will LOW CURRENT SUPPLY only... ie; to feed a sensor, another ecu module etc etc, not high current drawing accessories.

Play it safe and use a known accessories supply such as the 12v dash socket/cigarette lighter, or do a fresh run from the battery to a new fuse box and use a relay (switched from an accessory source) to supply it.

Thanks MickL. Excellent point and sound advice.
Might just ramp up the install of the auxiliary battery and run everything from that as I originally intended.

              Hi celwar,
I support MickL's comments, and I will also add, I would not place a UHF transciever next to the main ECU due to possible RFI issues, I placed mine in the CD stacker cavity in the upper section of the glove box and routed the antenna run clear of ECU cabling.
