  • Redarc warning real or not?

    During a recent discussion with an ARB dealer, I told him that I had done my own install and used the Redarc isolator. His comment was that when my alternator burns out he would sell me a propper dual batt management system, and that only cowboys use simple solenoids.

    While I am happy with my choice of isolator ( I did plenty of homework) I was wondering whether anyone had heard of this in real life or was I just getting sales talk.

    Is there anything I can do so that my alternator doesn't "burn out" when I am in the middle of the bush with my family on board and unable to start my car.

    I have used a Redarc for the past 4 years in 2 vehicles and have never had a problem and they have worked fine for me.

      The simple solenoid system he is referring to is a nono but that is more just a solenoid that pulls in when the key is turned on and this is when you get voltage spikes that damage components. A redarc that closes circuit at a certain voltage is honestly completely adequate.

        ARB dealers sell Pirahna DB systems, and also a Surepower isolator, which to my knowledge is pretty much the same as Redarc. I do get tired of the salespeoples BS, they sell the best of everything, just ask and they will tell ya.

          Pure sales pitch mate. The redarc will not operate whilst both batteries are flat or down which is where you'll load up your alternator. It will only operate when the start battery is sufficiently charged. As Mattwhite said they also incorporate spike suppression. They're a great little solenoid for most simple dual battery setups.

              He was obviously suffering from a severe bout of rectal cranial inversion.

              My Redarc isolator is still functioning perfectly.

              The only problem my alternator is going to have is that it can't hold its breath long enough under water :lol: :lol:

                The guy who told you this is either :

                1. A snake in the grass who will spin any BS to make a sale.
                2. Technically incompetent.

                Either way I'd be staying well away from this guy and what wherever he works.

                  This bloke has actually been very good. Has done a wonderful job with my car so far which is why I took the comment (on the redarc) so seriously. Just goes to show that you have to be careful not to take too much "good" advise from one person before opening your wallet...
