    Has anyone done or seen a solid axle conversion on a prado?

    Its something Im researching myself.

    I have being told Mark Ellem, formly A4WDM photographer, was running 35inch tyres under his, and I think it had a sas. I'm still yet to confirm any of these details and unable to find anything online. keepus posted and I'll do the same it I find anything more. I have a few leads to follow up on.

      That thing was IFS.
      no probs troy. I assume the guards were chopped then!?!?

        Yeah have taken my prado on some fairly hard tracks, and quite happy with its performance.

        Wont be doing this custom anytime soon if ever, but later down the track maybe!!

        Seen some new lux's that have been done, and think the work being put into them looks the goods!!

          There are several FJ's that have done the SAS. All-Pro Off-Road even sells a complete kit that should work on the Prado. Also check out http://www.fjcruiserforum.com and search SAS. There is a list with how to make the conversion using common US automakers parts.

            Ellem's Prado had a (now discontinued) BBM spacer kit, basically the same as the one Snake Racing offers for Hilux's, it just drops the diff 4" extending all the brackets and links between the wishbones, with some longer coils out back.

            I bought the Superlift version for my 4Runner, although I sold it before I had the kit fitted, lol.

                  Got a price the other day for solid front end..

                  Around $12000. give or take a couple gee.

                    At 12k I'm not surprised they're seldom seen. I remember getting quotes for my old 4Runner, the most elaborate setup with full 5-link and coilover shocks was about $4800, I'll stick with IFS I think, lol.

                      I seen a new model Hi-Lux in 4X4 monthly a little while ago that had a S A S, was a plumber so he needed it to get on to house site as he reckoned, what a load of bull s#*t. So if ya can con the tax department into giving you an ABN so you do up your 4by for rock crawling then maybe you could get the rest of us Innocent tax payers, who perform their civic duty for this great country, to fund it for ya.

                        how do ya come to that conclusion. He still had to fork out for it, he may have just not had to pay tax on the $$$ he spend on it.

                          Can claim G S T back on the vehicle purchase and the upgrades and then they can claim a percentage rate, about 10 or 12 percent, for the deprecating value of the vehicle, including mods, over the next 5 yrs.
                          I think this would end up paying for S A S.
