  • Remote central locking

    Hi Everybody,

    Just a quick question...

Ive just purchaced a 120D4D with standard key operated central locking.. Im looking at going down the path of fitting a remote set up to this setup....

Ive been told by the dealership that it is not possible/too hard..

Just wondering if anybody has done what im looking to do..

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

I thought all 120's had remote central locking as a standard item?

Maybe the dealer hasnt given you the right keys (with buttons)....

          G'day John
Did you buy the car new or 2nd hand?
Because it sounds like the courtesy key, the one that won't open the glovebox when you get the car valet parked (like we all do)
Apparently if you don't know or have the key codes it can be quite costly to get a new set programmed.
If the car was 2nd hand, maybe check the log book for the previous owner, and they may have a spare stashed away at home somewhere.
          Good luck though

How many keys did you get as I got 3 with mine, 2 push button remote and the valet key no remote?

            Was it second hand?

If so then I would be asking the dealer for the extra keys...

Forget asking .... I would be demanding !!!

.... as, from memory, replacement keys cost an arm and two legs

thanks for the replies,I bought the vehicle new & received 3 keys. The dealer was upfront & explained it being a base model meant it had central locking but no remotes & it was not viable to add the remotes wich surprised me,hence my enquiree

Maybe they don't because then they wouldnt have a transponder setup either?? Means easy to steal...

Well there you go. Just looked at the specs for the Prado Standard on toyo web site.

Listed as central locking, but not remote as the others are. Live and learn.

I guess you could probably look at an aftermarket alarm system that would include the remote feature.

Transponders are in all the keys.

                        that's correct.
you have a chip in the rubber toyota key to operate the security function,
but not the remote central locking.
would be cheaper to go aftermarket remote central locking,
but wouldn't be as neat (wiring and items).

Well the GX certainly has the pushbutton key remote as this is what I have. Seems a little strange to include the capability with the standard model but not give you the remote to use it. Is that the case? Or is it that the remote system is left out entirely?

I mean it's not a simple case of ordering a set of keys through Toyota with the remote attached is it? Albeit for the price of your neatly severed leg......

I thought the GX was the base model!!! My GX keys have remote central locking on them.

GX is not the base model.
The base model is the 'Prado Standard". Basically the Standard is a mines spec vehicle with just the bare essentials.
