  • Suspension lift and tyre size info needed

    Hi all,

I was wondering how high a suspension lift people have managed to go and what tyre size they have managed to get under the guards without to many hassles. At present I am running factory suspension and cooper ST 265/75/16.

Has any one had any success with bigger tyres than this and good ground clearance? Trying to work out how high I can go!

    Thanks Michael

Its been discussed a couple of times already, but I wouldnt go any higher than 2" in a suspension lift, as it would put to much strain on the front CV's. Even with 2" you may find the CV boots will tear easyer.
I find with the 2" I have that 265/75/16 are quite big enough, although I have heard of 285/75/16's fitting, which will give you a bigger diameter.

Welcome aboard viewtek, Im sure you will find plenty of info on PP, just add your location to your profile so we know where you are.

      Hi Yota,

Thanks for that reply, its a real shame these machines dont have a live front axle. Im very impressed with the off road capabilities but need more clearance. (So I dont keep mashing my side steps) lol.

If i went a 2 inch lift, I was thinking of Lovells HD Springs all round as I have diesel, bull bar dual battery etc Drawers in the rear and through the week a boot full of tools, ladders on the roof blah blah blah. From what I understand that will give me 50-70mm lift and if I add a 1 inch body lift that should give me heaps of clearance. Do you know of any problems with that scenario?

      thanks

Mate, I looked into the body lift, but was stoped with air bag compatability and enginering/rego requirements. In the end its not realy necesary for what I need, although a few other on this site have done the body lift so do a search, Im sure youll find something.

          Hi ya viewtek...

Do a search on Lovells and you'll find my truck... it's been lifted with the Lovells springs, shocks and struts all round.

I went MD in the front but by the sound of it you could comfortably go the HD's front and back.
          Cheers, Leon

Yes, Please do a search, we really dont need another thread on suspension lifts, there is dozens already.

Any higher than 2" may not be legal in some states as well.

              Thanks for the replies.

FYI I have read the threads and it doesnt have any relevant info about going higher than 2 inches apart from legalities and cv boots. Has anyone done it and what is the largest tyres they got under the guards.

I donŽt know, is this any help, but username Bosvark drives with 305/70R16 +spacers, but they rubbing: http://forum.ih8mud.com/90-series-tech/ ... drive.html

I have 33x12.50R17 (8x17" ET 0) under the guards. IŽve made 2" bodylift + 1" front top plate spacers.

If you want 285/75R16, youŽll need about 2" lift and you have to prepare to make some trimming to front inner fender plastic parts/mud flap. Go for it!

                  Hi Mate

I'm running 305/70R16's with 30mm spacers. The reason for the spacers is to retain the turning circle and to stop the tyres from rubbing on the chassis and to give clearance between tyre and upper control arm.

I have a 3" lift up front and a 4" lift at the rear. The front CV's are on an angle but I don't think that its that bad to shred boot cover al the time. You can do a front diff drop to correct this, I will do it at some stage just as a precaution.
To try to stop the rear tyres from rubbing when fully stuffed on compression, I made some 2"extension blocks for the bump stops. I also made extended links for the rear sway bar and extension blocks for the front one, but you will get a lot more flex if you disconnect the sway bars. Just be carefull if the front one is disconnected, cause at full droop you Will shear the CV's.

You can also have a look at Beast2's set-up he is running 285/75R16's

You can also run 255/85R16's, have a look at 24Seven's write up.

All the above mentioned tyre sizes are around 33" diameter which will give you loads of clearance.

                  Go for it Mate!!!
