  • TJM Susp

Just out of interrest, what is your opinion/experience with TJM suspension kits. They seem to be well thought of in South Africa and in other forms.
They look to be in the same class as OME for over land choise.

TJM and OME are two different companies, TJM is TJM, OME is ARB.

The reason for asking is that we here in the UK do not have much choice in different brands, the majority of the market only cater for Land Rover. The majority of Land Cruiser owners install OME. One of our form members installed a full TJM XGC suspension on his 95 series and is disappointed , cause the ride is very, very harsh now. But I also know about a guy how installed the same TJM XGC in his land rover 130 camper with air bag helpers in the rear and he is very chuff with it, done a trip in the French Alps and was only sing praises regarding handling and ride comfort.
May it be because he has a heavier laden truck???....

It probably has a lot to do with the spring rates, in oz you you can get amedium duty and heavy duty spring, if no load the heavy spring will be very rough.

Both are kinda under the same umbrella in a round about way. ARB own OME, OME springs are made by king springs and TJM owns King springs. Like i said, in a round about way

I thought I'd just provide some information on what I had done in case anyone else was searching and found it difficult to get an answer.
A little while I ago I had a TJM XGS 2 inch suspension lift fitted. I've got an alloy bar and dual batteries on the front but will soon have a steel bar and winch fitted. The rear's always empty, even with the rear seats in the boot removed and I never tow anything. I only load the car up heavily for camping trips every now and again. I had heavy duty springs fitted in the front and medium duty in the rear. The ride is beautiful and the fact that HD's are in the front doesn't make the ride remotely harsh at all. The front height actually increased by 3 inches, but that's because of the HD's with little extra weight up front. When I support my 85kg of body weight on the bull bar the height drops by an inch, which is what the bull bar and winch + a cradle minus the existing alloy bar will weigh. I got a wheel alignment done a few days later to correct the slight toe in. The CV's weren't at a bad angle so there wasn't any risk of tearing the boot seals through normal driving. Even though the front height increased by 1 inch more than the rear, the car still sits nice and level.

I'll test out how the rear medium duty suspension handles a bit of weight off-road when I go camping after Xmas. If it's nothing to write home about, then I'll get heavy duty rear springs fitted prior to my next camping trip a few weeks later and make my mind up afterwards with whether I'll leave the heavy's in the rear or not depending on the unladen ride comfort.
