Id double check the cable entry into the antenna as this is one area they do cop it, give the cable a gentle yank and see if it is still attached, unless the antenna is physically broken it should still be ok, I have seen some pretty mangled antennas that still work well

The antenna Hutch mentioned, A great antenna !

            Hi all,

A word of warning regarding the RFI cd900, these antennas aren't suitable for the Toyota bull bar.
They break at the middle section due to vibration. I believe the manufacturer does not guarantee
them when mounted on bull bars.

I have one myself and it vibrated terribly, a friend broke two in a matter of days. I have
placed a couple of layers of dual core heat shrink over mine to strengthen it.

There are a few running around with this antenna now, me included. D4D was the originator. I think OGG runs this combo now as well.

Anyhow I have some pics in my buildup here

Re: what brand of uhf antenna ?

its not just rfi antennas, ive had 3 steel whips snap off at the base and i gave them the flick and put a GME 4703 fibreglass antenna on, no broken antennas no, it has a spring base so if you hit something low it just bends, its a 4.5db gain so it give me good range in the scrub and good range on the flat, but remember the higher the gain the better the range when on the flat but when it gets to hilly stuff the lower the db rating the better the range. cheers samo
had an 03 gx 120 with some gear now got a 2013 bt 50 GT auto some ARB gear.

Re: what brand of uhf antenna ?

Okay, so my free steel whip antenna that came with my GME has now snapped. Lasted about 3-4 weeks. Snapped half way up above the thing :?: in the middle. Looking at the short bendy antenna on the roof rails, same as switched or a good big antenna on the wing of my ARB bar again :?: Looking at 4db gain. Any thoughts? Is the short one up high on the roof have the same reception as a good long one down on the bar that just clears the roof line? The one on your roof not in your vision but may be a pain for underground parking at shopping centres and the like?
                  Cheers
