  • Two electrical plugs at rear underside

Hi all was just having a look at the reflectors in rear bumper ,with a closer inspection to the underside I noticed there are two grey connector plugs
(one each side ) just wondering if they are for these two reflectors (ie rear fogs ) or any thing else that the GXL dose'nt have . Would any body know.

    Cheers steve

To the best of my knowledge they are not connected as they do not comply with Australian ADR's.

Team Piggy had this snippet ...

A lot of cars come in with blanked off lights as they dont meet the Aust rulings.

Chippy's right about the ADR's, you'll notice most late model 4x4's have reflector in the bumper rather than lights.

McBAIN has modified his with LED's. Click on the link to show his results and fitment... http://www.hgfs.net/4x4mods/0704pradoled/0704led.htm

            Easiest Rear Foglight Installation!

            Hi Everyone..!

My first post here, and as far as I can see, the best Prado forum I've seen

I have been studying the rear fog light setup for the last month on my Prado as well as browsing the net for ways in which to make them work.... I've seen many posts in many forums on how to do this, and I would like to think I have come up with a simple solution:

I went to our local car parts market here in Dubai, and bought P/N 84165-33040 (Rear fog lamp switch). This switch plugs directly into the wiring harness located behind the instrument dimmer switch ass'y. You will see a white connector with a green line through it: this is the connector to plug into the back of the switch.

Underneath the rear bumper of the car (l-hand and r-hand sides)are the two plug points BlackD4D was talking about. Once you connect the switch to the wiring harness, power is supplied to these plugs when the rear fog switch is activated (obviously the main lights have to be on first!)

Simply modify the rear fog reflectors to take some form of light ass'y ( a few good threads exist in these forums) and away you go!

Go to our Dubai Petrolheads website to see pics
If at first you don't succeed, use a bigger hammer!

                  Damonat,

After reading all the threads on this subject, I was racking my brains to come up with a really simple, and original looking solution (rather than hacking into wiring looms etc...)

I removed most of the trim in my car in order to trace the wiring for this, and after making some inquiries to our local dealers, I discovered that almost all Prado's come with the same wiring loom... US, EU and AU cars have the same loom. I hunted for about a month to find a market dealer who sold the original switch assembly (as our Toyota agent doesn't officially stock this switch). As soon as I saw that switch, and saw the connector type it took, I immediately knew the white connector behind the dash was the same....

What I wasn't sure about was, if there needed to be a second fog lamp relay installed in the main fuse box inside the engine bay... But I plugged in the switch anyway and inserted a tester into the rear socket under the bumper.

I wasn't expecting to see 12v when I activated the switch - but was totally gobsmacked when the meter showed 12v..!!! I felt the whole thing was a bit anti-climactic really... It was all too simple!

Now I just have to find the original rear fog lamp assemblies with the connectors... If I can't, I'll just have to put something together

                    Well done Adamrick,
My Led Stop/Tail in the fog light assy's work a treat, they got a submarine test recently on a water crossing no problems with water ingress into my irrigation adaptor lamp holders.

i have worked in toyota spare parts for a while (before moving on to greener pastures).
the toyota parts listing i used to use, gave you every part for every car ever made in the world.
the trick is, being that toyota austrailia is who you franchise too, means you only have on record the parts applicable to australia.
                      BUT.
you can do special requests and ask for a certain part number be listed in the australian system, (i have done this for other toyota's i owned and wanted a better looking part that wasn't available in aust).
so i might have to pay my old work a visit and confirm this part number and also have a look at the rear foggies number.
what does this mean for all other PP's. means after i do that, you can just order, price the part as per normal with any toyota australia dealer, and they'll have access to it.
when i get the numbers for the rear foggies, i'll list them here so you all can make an informed decision as to mod your own or buy original.

                        Cheers Damonat!

If the price is not too expensive, I might buy original rear fog lamp assemblies....

I'm going to go back to my source here in Dubai and see if he can get the originals too. We can then compare your price vs Dubai....

adamrick, do you happen to have the part number of the harness that connect to the rear fog switch as I am having trouble sourcing it out.
Maybe the harness itself have a white label which shows the part number?
                          Thanks.
