Does anyone use a solar system to charge their 2nd battery. I'd be interested in what you have set-up, size of panels, etc.

I figure that it would be sensible to use the good old Aussie sun to keep the battery charged up if the fridge is on and the car is not used for a few days.

BTW - Make sure you look at a fellow Prado owners "solar spreadsheet" at http://www.campertrailers.org/solar_spreadsheet.htm

Hi Noel,

I dont have any photos yet because its not being installed till tuesday.I will be using a 12 amp regulator and two 50 watt solar panels. The regulator will be fitted in the car with about 5 meters of cable so all i have to do is plug in the panels in when i set up camp.

Cheers

Hi NoelA,
The size of your solar panels depends on how much current you draw from your battery.
So what is your load?
How long do you intend to stay in one place to allow the batteries to charge?
Like a piece of string how long do you want it?
