I like this spot ... for the Polaris monitor (I'm not sure if the Waeco allows this type of fitting ?????)

It's just habit, I guess, but I'm always checking the mirrors and this monitor position is in the same line of sight for the left mirror.

    Cheers

Thanks for that chippy, will have to see if the Waeco monitor will fit there.

How does that mount thing work Chippy??

I have been wanting to put on a reversing camera for a while now, and have been struggling to find a spot for the monitor, shy of getting the satnav head unit from a grande or a 2din dvd headunit.

          Hey Damien

The unit pictured is the catalogue shot for the Polaris CM-35.

I haven't got it yet - as the trip is the major priority at the moment.

The monitor sits in a cradle that attaches to the glass with a type of double sided tape. It allows the monitor to clip back into the carrier ans sit flat when not needed (or when the missus wants to powder her nose in the visor mirror). When you need it you flip it out of the carrier and rotate towards the driver's seat - so that it falls into your natural eyeline when looking from the rear view mirror to the passenger side mirror.

A Google search on the Polaris CM-35 will turn up a few suppliers and specs for you.

          Cheers
          Chippy

I bought a monitor that fits over & replaces the rear vision mirror. However the damn thing was too bloody heavy and kept "tipping" the rear vision mirror so the display was aimed down at the dash. After much head scratching, I mounted the monitor in the centre of dash. Not ideal for this type of monitor but does the job and doesn't obstruct forward vision. Have used adhesive velcro as I didn't want any holes in the dash. Is holding fine, even on recent offroad adventures. Location might be worth considering.

              Byrnsie,
That looks a good spot and I like the velcrose fitting.
What are dimensions of your unit ?

The unit itself is quite bulky as it was designed to replace your rear vision mirror (250mm x 100mm). The actual screen display is 130mm x 75mm or 5x3 inches in the old speak.

                  Thanks again.
                  My dimensions are

                  W 142
                  H 108
                  D 32

So that should fit in OK.

Nice one! i like that, fits in well! i did consider that one but i have the beige interior so it stands out a little more.. then i got all creative thoughts about creating a storage section there and covering it in matching marine carpet... one of these days!

What's that under the headunit there? did you upgrade the speakers too or do they work ok with more power being fed into them?

Replaced the Yota stereo with the Sony unit as the original ate my CD's. The car was out of warranty & Mr Yota wanted a zillion dollars for a new factory unit. Sony unit sits on top of generic brand toyota DIN tray that I got from Strathfield Car Radios (about $20) and fits really good. No gaps & no cutting req'd.

Was going to upgrade the speakers but thought I would try first with factory units. Sound is good (read better than std stereo) without being great. One day . . . other priorities.

                        Byrnsie,
Interested to learn how you got the cable from monitor to camera at back of vehicle.

Also if you have a camera on van what connector did you use.

                        Thanks

sounds very familiar... my cd player is not playing at the moment... only occasionally loads cd's, never plays them and doesn't always give them back... so i just listen to the radio!

good to see how it all fits together!

Where that single din slot is underneath your head unit is a perfect place to mount a retractable screen for the reversing camera...

I think Jaycar sells something that would fit the bill nicely.

Unless i get a hold of the head unit off a Grande with sat nav and that i guess that will be my plan eventually...

That was a day (or was it two) that I have been trying to forget. Removed just about every bit of interior trim in the car. (at least this has made fitting the stereo, UHF radio & 12v accessory sockets easier as I now know how everything fits together).

I only have the one camera which is fitted to rear of vehicle

I have however installed a switch so I can turn on camera independent of selecting reverse.

                              Cheers - Byrnsie
