View Full Version : Rallye FF 4000 Compact Chrome Series

Gidday, first post. Picking up new TD crystal pearl VX next week and agonising over spotties (and the car after reading nearly every post on here). I have decided on the Rallye FF compact series (haven't decided on the chrome or black yet) as I have read on this forum about the problem with the height of the full size (233mm) fitting under the Soveriegn bar (compacts are 170mm). The car yards local supplier have quoted a ridiculous price for a pair of compact chromes ($310 for spread, $350 for spot, $150 to fit, no covers). E-Bay have them for $529 pair (chrome), $439 pair (black) with covers. Has anyone got these compact series spotties? If so, how are they? Please tell so I can sleep at night (lol).

The rally team i am involved in has 4 running on the front of a WRX and we have just converted them to HID.

I would highly suggest going for the HID ones from day one (The FF compacts are avaliable with factory HID).

The rallye 4000's wont fit under the sovereign bar.
I would suggest you can comfortably fit 3 of the compacts in the bar.

The spots create a bright point and it can be distracting (in rallying anyway) as the spot of light on trees and corners is distracting.
The driving beams are excellent.
Some of the ones on Ebay are not genuine and are copies. Be careful.

G'day Hodgy and welcome to the forum.

I have a pair of Hella Rallye FF1000s and I'm very happy with them (when I had them on my Subaru), although they are slightly different to the 4000 compacts, they are still made in Germany and use the free form reflector. They are very good for their size.

I just haven't had time to install them on the 120 yet! :roll:

I got mine on eBay from a seller in Victoria, I guess you've got to be careful with the overseas ones.

Team Piggy how much are the hid compacts and with 2 speads on do they penetrate far enough when on the wide open road? Just with rallying you are not normally checking for wildlife 200metres up the road. Also can you convert standard compacts with cheap hid kits or are they not as powerful or reliable?
Sorry about all the :?: but i think you would be the man in the know with the rally cars.

No your looking for trees and corners & animals 500-800 mtrs up the road!~ Remember some of these dirt roads see 220+ kph!

The HID is a much better light, I would suggest fitting only one of each Spread & Spot, best of both worlds.

All spots becomes an issue that you have bugger all side penetration, spread beam is needed there.
Cant comment on pricing as the ones that are on the rex are bought at the right rate thru sponsors so has no merits to retail or trade pricing.

Team Piggy thats what i had on my last 4wd spead and spot. Spot beam can annoy you if not adjusted 100%. Can get dealer price on hella stuff
so will find out price from local supplier. Got to sell old 4wd drive before doing this one up otherwise it will just sit there and rust away.

I got Lightforce 240 XGTs fitted yesterday and they rock :D. All I need now is HID kit :D :lol: :lol: :lol:
I saw quite a few Prados around Mildura with 240XGTs mounted on sovereign Bullbar - looks very nice!

Has anyone tried the Lightforce 240 50W factory HID's?

On paper, they seem bloody awesome (and should be at over a grand a pop).

Just wondering if they really are the duck's nuts of lighting...

One of the guys had 2 of them fitted to a Evo on the weekend at the rally. Stupidly he left them fitted all day and by 8 pm they had snapped one mount requiring him to rip it off at a timing control point!

I see less and less of these brands of lights on rally cars lately as they seem to not be able to last the distance or heavy vibration.

I helped one guy "focus" his 240's and was very dissapointed by the poor spread beam that it gave off, huge black hole in the centre of it when set wide??

That's funny - I heard a couple of similar stories about LF over the weekend. None of them real flattering. A lot of the rally guys I know still swear by their Cibies.

I'm going to go with either 3 IPF HID's (2 spreads and one spot) or 2 Hella 1000 HID spreads and a spot to be decided (predator?).

Only thing about the Hella HID's, the red surrounds scream "expensive xenon, steal me!!" Whereas the IPF HID's look just like "normal" IPF's.

I've seen the spread beams on the Hellas and they're incredible - they kill my Oscar SC's which are the best spread lights I've ever tried.

I've never experienced the IPF HID's though. I imagine they shouldn't be too bad given that their conventional 900 is a pretty good light and the extra reflector size over the Hella. There seems not to be a whole lot of user feedback on them that I've been able to gather. Not a bad price though...

Tossing up over a known quantity or punt on the unknown...

Custom job, Bracketry is a custom made quick release, and the HID are ebay inserts in normal Rallye 4000 compacts.
They are actually a bit too bright in 4 x Spot configuration and we are looking at some of the driving lights (spread) for the outer 2.
We do have some H4-2 HID inserts for the headlights yet to go in which may solve the issue.
